Does a good graphing calculator exist?

Dash Lambda

Ti-83 or higher is good enough for high school use. I personally use a 84 Silver but have yet to use any of the additional features. Was just cheaper when I got it.

Couldn't find a place for this, so I put it in General Discussion.

Anyway, I've been looking around at graphing calculators, and I cannot justify spending any money on something with hardware so laughably, horrendously, absurdly outdated.

Yes, I know a graphing calculator doesn't have to be a supercomputer, but there's absolutely room for improvement.

To spare you an extended rant, I find it difficult to believe that not a single company has made a reasonably advanced graphing calculator in any way, shape, or form.... But I just can't find anything. Have any of you guys seen one?

Texas Instruments make some which are super amazing.

I have the Ti 84 Plus C Silver Edition although I know a newer slimmer version exists which is faster.

Judge a product on its own merits AND the company that made it.

No, all university math courses require you to do everything by hand and on paper.

No formula sheets, calculators, etc..

There was only one math class in highschool where i actually had to rent a graphing calc for like $20, but that was the only time in my life it was ever required.

Really glad I didn't buy one, because it would have been pretty useless in university.

not in sweden. non-graphing calcs allowed sometimes

Super amazing how?

Millions of functions, everything from graphing to differentiating, logarithms and all sorts.

If you can think of a maths or science thing you need a calc for, then it'll do it.

I use my phone as a ti-89 literally every day. You can get an app to emulate it, and find the rom for the calculator for free from Texas Instruments  (the makers of the calc). It's notably faster than the stock hardware on the device.

Anyways the best thing about the 89 (although many other calcs can offer it as well) is the implicit integration and solving functions.  Less annoying than typing it into wolfram-alpha.

  • 2 weeks later...

There is no good graphing calculator. There are some okay ones, some crappy ones, and some ABSOLUTELY GARBAGE ONES. Engineering Calculators are fairly decent and nice.
