M.2 for gaming drive or OS

Peebojam

Hi all,

First post ever! I've tried checking other posts to find any opinions on this but have come up empty. I'm working on my new build and have the option of throwing an M.2 drive on the board. I plan on taking advantage of this however I don't know if it's more beneficial to use if for the OS (Windows) or use it for my gaming drive. The rig's primary function is gaming but I'm not sure if a speed bottleneck would occur on the OS side or the gaming side of the software, excuse my ignorance.

Any thoughts, ideas or suggestions are welcome.

Also, for reference, thinking of using this board (admittedly for the color scheme and rgb goodness) and a 6700k.

Thanks all.

OS.

Games don't benefit much from an SSD other than a few games which will have faster load times.

Os. Most games aren't benefited a whole lot by ssds, and games are big files that will fill up an expensive drive fast. If you want to put a game on it, just put any game that has long loading times, like fallout 4.

I have a raid0 drive, just ssd's like an m.2 with a different connection. And I keep specific games on it as well as my OS. Open world games like Fallout work great, If I had the space I'd throw Battlefield on there as well, those load times are atrocious. And cs:go. Just because :P

Shipping sucks

Maybe that's the way to go.

I was considering the 256 for the OS, a 500gb SSD for everything else and a 2-4tb HDD for storage. But that may be overkill since my media library has basically dwindled down to nothing.

Thanks for the input Altecice, I think I'll look into going a similar route.

No such thing as too much,  BC u only get 2 or 4tb and u think u won't full it up,  then 2 yrs later 4tb is barely enough.  Games,  programs and such get bigger is size all the time,  I'd go with as much as u can right now

just make sure the m.2 drive is PCIe based and not SATA

if its SATA then youre paying a premium for the form factor with no additional benefits in performance

and use for OS
