Charging a 12v Sealed Lead Acid with a Cheap Solar Panel

TheTacoSniper

Hi, I have very limited knowledge in the field of general electronics. I want to build a solar boat with a pool net attached. I plan on just getting a 5Ah 12v Sealed Lead Acid from amazon (because Lipos are a pain in the ass)  and one of those cheap 12v 5watt solar panels to charge it while not in use. Would I need some sort of charge controller or is that sort of thing not necessary? Thanks and byebye!

you need one of these things , a solar charge controller , easy to fing on ebay and cheap low wattage ones are plenty to come by

hooking up the solarpanel will charge the battery , but also discharge it at night when the panel is not putting our current

also just using a panel might run the risk of overcharging the battery

edit , just saw that the panel is for a car or something like that and only 5w , it shud have a diode to protect the battery from getting drained overnight so it shud be JUST FINE
