2. Try facing the fan downwards instead of at the motherboard when you get your new case . a PSU fan is designed to withdraw heat from within the psu (I think) so if it is blowing on the motherboard, then that will cause the whole pc to overheat.

The fan in a psu acts as an intake. It won't blow onto the motherboard when facing down as in the op's case. The hot air escapes out of the rear vents.

Well if its like the GQ the fan will kick on when it reach a certain temp, though it would have to be very hot inside your case for these power supplies to shut off unless you have a faulty unit or something, the 650 GQ for instance is rated for its full 650w at 50c, and it did so easily in johnyguru's review.

I doubt it. never  really had this issue since installing the anniversary update.  Just try what I am recommending it. There are some very great cases from thermaltake that are very low and cost and very efficient as well.

I am starting to doubt the PSU is the issue but I will check the mode switch next.

Well 1 PC reboots under a hour and the other under 2 hours an both have the AU before they did not so I dunno... :(
