Fury X vs 980ti

Hi guys,

 

I was given a choice from the office, Fury X or 980ti.

My rig i5 3570, 16gb ram, r9 280 3g, X650w Seasonic. Any inputs on which one to get? I just play bf4 & 1, csgo and some rpgs. Really looking forward in Dx12.

Fury X because the drivers have matured and it is currently faster than the 980Ti. Coming up on the 1070 too.

980 Ti. Hands down.

 

980 Ti beats the Fury X in most tests and the Fury is water-cooled which just sounds depressing.

So the 980 Ti is still a bit more powerful today. But I see a couple reasons to get a Fury X (assuming same price)

 

- Memory bandwidth is going to matter as both 4GB and 6GB cards start seeing their RAM amounts be maxed out by games

- Freesync is that, free, and it's an amazing technology, whereas Gsync is the same thing but costs $200

- Optimizations for Asynchronous compute that come in the future will help out the Fury X, on the other hand the 980 Ti will not get any better than it is right now.

 

Do make sure you have space for the radiator if you get a Fury X.

I'm glad TPU retests every time they do a review. It's a lot of work, but it's valuable information.

Most people still think the 980Ti is faster, but it's old news. Mainly Fury X vs 1070 and the Fury X comes damn close to the 1070.

You'd be surprised. 1TB/s bandwidth basically turns those 4GB into more than 4GB, in terms of a game needing this or that amount of RAM.

But, because it is using HBM Memory, the data from the vRAM clears much faster, making it use about 1.5GB of vRAM in games that would typically use 4GB on GDDR5.

That's right. The Fury X has HBM. Maybe AMD is doing a better job nowadays.

It was kind of silly financially to make a GPU for the future, but now it's paying off for them. Not as much as it would have if they'd just done the present right though.

If the Core on the Fiji arch had just oced a bit better it would have been much faster than an OC'd Maxwell 980Ti.

Furies are great value at $310

 

They're about 10% less than a Fury X, which means they're an absolute beast.

They go for $250 frequently on reddit.com/r/hardwareswap and are an absolute STEAL.

Honestly, they should have rebranded and optimized the Fury, it only consumes 250W, can be tweaked to do 200W, and is a beast even today. The Fury X is marked up since it's the flagship of the generation, but not enough love goes to the high-end price performance king.

Why get a nano when you can get the rx 480 or 1060?
