the "e" version is a higher binned version, it is binned for low power (95w) rather then raw performance (125w)

I dont think "Dying Light", which is known to be broken as fuck (its getting better) is a good "showcase". Be it for or against FX products.

Use known, stable games that doesnt have strange performance behavior.

haha yeah sure...here how it ran on MY OWN machine with a GTX 780 (weaker than a 970) and a PROPER gaming CPU:

If you have one or the other it is no point swapping, in both cases disable turbo and set your core clock to the desired speed and you can do it up or down!

Get a i5-6600K unless the FX-8370 is a steal! (tough the i5-4690K is also a honorable mention and decent choice!)

Though even an i5 6500 will do, or an i5 4590 (the pre refresh Haswell i5 are at the end of their useful life IMO after going back to my i5 4440 for a short while).

OCing is the only cheap option. Going Intel, or even going AMD FX series, implies getting a new motherboard. Moreover, if you get the latest Intel generation, you will need to buy DDR4 RAM as well. If you are counting $250 for the CPU, and will pay whatever for the rest, Skylake i5s are good choices, but if $250 is the total for all upgrades, it will be hard to fit anything but the lowest end Intel or used AM3 (well, perhaps new AM3 as well these days).

I think the point is more about people preaching views on what's a good CPU, however founded, instead of answering a specific question. please stop being fanboys, my old FX8320E @4ghz helped me a lot for 2 years, run all games even witcher 3 and my new 6600K OC @4.6ghz is SLOWER in office applications and their starting time (CS, DXO Optic pro, Windows Office.......) while FASTER in games.

yes, the 8370e won't be able to overclock over it's turbo frequencey but will consume less electricity. they're both good and if you are looking for office work get the E. If you want to play games get the FX 8350 or better, a high end i5.

Well, there about 4 years behind in tech. I have found the oppsite in speeds going from a oced 8320 to a 1231. The intel is much faster. 

 

Not worth buying today. AMD also doesn't have a highend cpu any more. IBM is more of a compete in the high end market than amd these days.

everybody doesn't have 400-800€ to put in a Intel CPU + motherboard, and AMD multicore is good, good enough for 80% of people using a computer. computing is not about gaming and 120fps @4K.... why sould my father use a i7 6700K computer at 1300€ to browse internet use excel word and photo editing while a 600€ amd does exactly the same performances ?
