Folding literaly 24/7 for over a week.

So i just left for work which envolved being away from home for 9 days and have left my machine folding. 

 

feeling a lil nervous and curious what ill be going home to ? 

 

Hopfully not a house fire!

You may end up being a little surprised on what even an entry-level card like a 750 Ti can accomplish.

If I folded for a week straight on my rig with no interruption, I could put out quite a few million points worth. I don't like my room hot though so I don't fold anymore.

Its winter atm so a lil warmth will be nice to arrive home to!

Ah, mid-year vaccation... let mine for a month unnatended. I did have TeamViewer for some remote management, but I wasn't actually there for a month. Crunched like a baby.

Yea it was kind if a last minute decision im geting a lil worried at this point. Im sure itll be fine though  if anything windows will auto update and brick my pc lol

Plus running remote access I can turn it off when I feel like it, but I have done what your doing but normally just for a weekend lol

How? my 1070 only gets like 500,000. They are equal for most things but is it that much better for folding?

500.000 average seems a bit low for a 1070. Do you have non third party one?

Pretty sure you've got something wrong, then. A 1070 should do upwards to 700k, not 500k. There could be a couple reasons to that, such as pausing work, have something else steal GPU resources or even not having a free CPU core to feed the GPU.

For one a 980ti simply has more CUDA cores but the 1000 series seems to do better at crypto mining or are at least more efficient

That's weird. When I run my PC at full folding power (which is every time I have F@H open), my 1070 gets around 750K on average, though it largely depends on the WUs it gets. The really big WUs that take about 8 hours to complete score are around 550K per day, while getting tiny WUs that take only 15-30 minutes can shoot it up to around 850K. The nice thing about the really long WUs is that if I want to play games on my PC, I can pause F@H, play games for a few hours, then resume the folding with only a minor drop in the points I get out of it.

I have an Asus 1070 Strix and an MSI gaming x. Both around 500000 points.

I feel like its probably the account because I have 2 different computers with 1070s and they both have the same issue. I tried pausing CPU folding too so not CPU issue. GPU usage goes to 1% if I pause that so nothing is stealing GPU usage.

On the issue of the 1070 and 980Ti.  It varies depending on WUs.  But they are close to each other.  Plus, depends on clock speed as well.

 

My two 980Tis can put out serious PPD, but that because I can fold with them over 1500MHz.  Depending on WU, they can fold at 1545MHz (They bench at 1570MHz).  Think highest PPD that one has spit out is 973K PPD on the 9205 WU.  Mine tend to avg around the 650-700K mark each.  Probably could be higher since I do BOINC with my CPU at the same time, but I keep the two from using the same threads by using Project Lasso to park them on certain range of threads.

 

But as stated, the 980Ti does have more CUDA cores.  And it seems F@H loves cards with more cores plus speed.

It the reason the 1060 3GB and 1060 6GB get different PPD since the 1060 3GB actually slightly cut down on cores compare to the 1060 6GB.

I'm pretty surprised what my REALLY old Radeon HD 7850 can do for BOINC - Collatz Conjecture... Gone making (and eating) food - got back to the PC and the current work was ~60% done... It has started a few minutes before I left.

But, I don't know if it's the GPU or the FX 8320 with the 8 threads are the main thing which affects the speed...

And I'll probably need to stop BOINC'ing with the FX-processor... simply because of the amount of power it needs to have 100% load...

I folded for a week 24/7 on my 750 ti and finished like 10 work units, with the 960 i have done about 30 more in the same time, just yesterday I added the 750 ti back in and now it's just going nuts, just joined the Linustechtips folding team as well.

I actually got my first million units on my 2 GB GTX 960 in a little under a couple weeks, and that was just from folding when I wasn't using my PC. It can pull around 150k-170k points per day if I let it go 24/7. It's certainly no slouch, and those points add up pretty quickly.
