Coil whine, the story continues...

Today I got my new ASUS 1080 GTX ROG STRIX OC,  great card, but unfortunately this thing has more coil whine than the EVGA FTW lol...

 

I think I've replaced just about all the parts on this system except the case...I am not sure what else to do.

 

The card is definitely better than the evga, One it runs around 68c vs evga 77c under full load/benchmarking.

This card out of the factory OC mode runs at 2.1Ghz without making any changes. Honestly it looks cooler than the EVGA card.

 

So, anyone else have any other suggestions?

Someone said it could be that I am not getting clean power at my house and that I try getting an UPS...should this be my next step?

Mobo: ASUS ROG MAXIMUS HERO VIII

Monitor: ASUS VG248QE 144hz 1080p

A UPS certainly wouldn't hurt.

I had coil whine when I was on vacation at a cabin, nothing at my house though, try a UPS or (maybe) surge protector.

I tried a surge protector, but these are the cheapo ones that you get from Walmart...I think an actual UPS might be worth a shot at this point.

first try unplugging everything everything in your home except your pc (even adapters etc). bad mains can be caused by something else shitting over the line. if that works, plug things in one by one (and unplug it after its cleared) to see whats the culprit. (it can even be stuff like lights)

Could be as simple as LED or CFL lighting on mains.  LED and CFL has really dirty back emf.  Not sure I'm using the right terminology though.

No.

 

120VAC LED lighting and 120VAC CFL lighting make a fair amount of noise.

 

To the best of my knowledge LED light strips in the PC run on DC, not sure the voltage though.

Computer LEDs are usually 12V DC off of the psu, unless they are hooked up to an inverter.

That sounds a bit complicated for me, I don't feel comfortable attaching capacitors and hot glue together potential fire hazard lol.

Yes, I did just unplug the cable and the noise is the same.

I tried to do this, no change. :(

 

My luck I guess. I've ran more power hungry system like the old gtx 480, 760 gtx, 980gtx ti...no coil whine, but with this generation I had no luck.

 

I am conflicted on what I should do.

 

A. Deal with coil whine and keep the ASUS Card, louder than the EVGA 1080 GTX FTW...but it runs 2.1Ghz out of factory stable...

B. Return the ASUS card and just keep the EVGA card for less coil whine.

C. Keep troubleshooting, but I really have no other options left...

 

I tried adding a UPS device, but the thing was having issues keeping my system up....not sure why but the system kept hanging up and it wouldn't boot past the bios screen...

Anyway...unless i missed it in the thread, you haven't yet tried the UPS option? I'd be looking to at least try this option...and even take your system to another house or to work to try a better source of power.

Monitors can have coil while as well, and it is common to place a computer right next to the monitor, if you can hear that the coil while is specifically coming from the computer then it wouldn't be the monitor.

No the monitor is on the desk, the computer sits on the floor. Coil whine is definitely coming from the GPU area.
