The 960 seems to do better in actual games, even though the specs on the 280x do look higher.

gpuboss is a crap benchmark, not worth looking at all. the 280x will be better than the gtx 960(even the 280 is...)

yeah, just watched a few benchmark videos. 280x is better. You can also find them on ebay for less than $100 so I think will go with that instead.

A wise choice. Even though the video is 1440p, games now at 1080 have the same difference in fps.

Also, the Bitfenix Comrade case that I changed to only has 1 fan. Should I get another case fan? Don't feel comfortable with only one lol

You'll want 32GB to edit video, if anything so you can put your video files on a RAMDisk which will make scrolling super smooth. The Xeon CPU there is just an i7-6700 but cheaper. The SSD is MLC and quite reliable.

I'd use @Energycore's build as a base to be honest. His seems to be doing the right stuff for the right reasons. Unless he wants me to nitpick his build.

The Xeon processor is cheaper, but then it requires a more expensive CPU + Mobo combo at around $390, the B150 combo I have with the 6700 is around $360. I really like the M.2 drive because it is so much faster than any SATA III drive you can get, so I'd rather go with that, and 32 GB of RAM just seems a bit overkill. I feel 16 GB is good enough considering I'm pretty sure that is the most RAM my dad has ever edited with. Also it's a little expensive being over double the money to double the already adequate RAM capacity.

Stick with the i7 / Mobo and 16GB of ram. 8GB is fairly usable for editing but 16GB is with out question recommended.

Ah that's right. Dammit Intel.

Alternatively, do a Haswell Xeon build; the Haswell processor is still very powerful today, and is 5% off the Skylake equivalent.
