Recently been looking around for a new monitor (my one is now many years old) and I came across the right budget of $400-500 AUD. Was wondering what the community had to say about this matter had two major contenders.

A fellow Aussie!

Hey mate,

I was in the exact same situation you are in about 2 weeks ago (I bought through Kogan instead of Dick Smith, shame Dick Smith shut down), though I was deciding between the 25" and the 29" rather than 1440p.

I was going to buy the LG 29UM68-P, but I'm so glad I didn't all just because of the size, ultrawide makes 25" huge!

I would personally buy a 1080p Ultrawide over a 1440p 16:9 any day, and once I bought it I will never be going back to 16:9 ever again - you won't regret it! You can fit so much more on the screen having an Ultrawide, it's bloody amazing. Though if you want the 29" for more space go for it, but 25" Ultrawide suits me.

Good Luck Mate

1440p would be a stretch for that card if you intend to push game on max settings to it.

I would suggest 2560 x 1080 ultrawide if you're okay with that resolution.

Make sure whatever you do supports that resolution and you'll be fine.

And good choice on picking that 29", 25" is really small for me. (depends on from what size you're upgrading from)

The vertical height is around 21" of normal 16:9 monitor, that's just "cute".

So, my vote goes to 29" 2560 x 1080.

I own the 34in version of this and it's fantastic. As someone said earlier once you go to 21:9 you'll find it hard to go back to 16:9. The extra real estate is awesome for gaming and productivity!

First build every: Intel Core i7 4790K, Asus Z97-A/USB 3.1 motherboard, Kingston HyperX FURY 1866 2x8 16GB Kit, Gigabyte Windforce GTX 970 G1 Gaming, Corsair Obsidian 450D Black ATX Mid Tower, Samsung 850 EVO 250GB & 3TB Toshiba HDD, EVGA SuperNOVA 750W G2, Corsair H100i GTX 240mm, Gigabyte Bluetooth 4.0/Wifi Card, Logitech G700S. Running on Windows 10

So damn true! After trying out and getting so used to a 29" AOC 2560x1080 UW monitor, I simply cannot go back to 16:10/16:9 anymore, they simply look wrong! After having such an awesome experience with the 29" UW monitor, I decided I wanted more, so I ordered and got an Acer XR341CK Freesync monitor a couple of days ago.....so loving it!:x

In aus, main display is a 27" kogan 1440 60hz (picked it up new for $200AUD) at this size I really do think you need the higher res and better pixel density. As for refresh rate, there's a clear night to day difference to 144hz to 60hz, if your machine can push the higher frames.

as for wide vs 16:9. extra fov is great, I've been looking to upgrade to an ultrawide 1440 with my new system. The old hd 6970 struggles to keep up with 60fps now.

Silent build - You know your pc is too loud when the deaf complain. Windows 98 gaming build, smells like beige

Do you like paying for overpriced 1440p ultrawide?

£250 for a Ultrasharp 1440p display isn't overpriced if you ask me, :)

This is one of the reasons why I prefer 21:9 aspect ratio over 16:9...

....note the dreaded black bars on top and bottom, the left and right black bars can be ignored if viewed on a 16:9 monitor. That's why I don't really enjoy movies on 16:9 monitors and TV's.

Cropping the video to fit the entire screen makes it a magical experience for me. Yes, you lose out on some resolution, but it still looks damn good....to me anyway. Did the same thing on my AOC Q2963PM when I was trying out a 21:9 monitor, I'm somewhat of a videophile and watching movies in a 2.35:1 like format is boss!

I'm comparing 21:9 1080p to 16:9 1440p.

OP was doing the same which is why they linked a 16:9 1440p display and a 21:9 1080p display, so please feel free to actually read I'm sure if you find it challenging you could ask someone to do it for you.

I'm comparing 21:9 1080p to 1440p because 16:9 1440p is far interior to both options. So feel free to actually read my comments. Go back to kindergarten if you need any help with that.
