Best CPU with GTX 980 Ti for 1440p?

I'm building my first PC and I'm wondering if the Intel i5-6400 will have any bottleneck issues with a GTX 980 Ti if I want to run it at 1440p most the time. Also, since I'm pretty new to this, can someone explain how exactly bottleneck issues arise?

Bottlenecking depends on the situation. In most games at 1440p if you want 60+ FPS a modern i5 CPU will get the job done. Anything past an i5 isn't really worth it for gaming anyways since many games make poor use of multiple CPU threads. Also bottlenecking rises when one component in your system isn't fast enough so it holds back something else. Most the time this is with a GPU in gaming, in some recent games if you want 144 fps at 1080p with an i5 though the CPU can become a problem.
