Theory on why MacBooks are the go-to laptop for college students

Most collages in my area use macs so that is probably the main reason

Screen, battery, well built. I have one... a 13 inch. Very portable, i5 is fast enough, poped a Vertex 3 in there and im pretty happy with it. I did get it about 2 years ago now, there are other options I would now consider, although at the time, it was my choice 100%.

 

O, and I have windows 7 on it, no OSX what so ever

Apple doesn't market the Macbook as any of those. They market it as a beautiful laptop, which is what every single god damn person wants, you wouldn't marry an ugly woman solely for her intelligence.

It's pretty, it's solid build, it's easy to use for everyday's tasks, horrible for gaming but that's not what they look for, good battery life, for a student it really is a good option.

Of course it's expensive, but I'm pretty sure that a good part of them are paid by mom and dad. If you're on a budget, and have a car, rent, food to pay, you're probably not going to throw 1500$ away (give or take) for a laptop.

I actually have more respects for people with 400$ laptop than 1500$ Macbook, at least you have the feeling they paid for it. But that's just me, I'm not hating on it because it's too popular or too expensive for me

Marketing Marketing Marketing Marketing.  Apple knows who their audience is.  It's seen as the only compter that is "cool" by regular people.  At least a macbook pro is a decent piece of tech unlike beats by dre who have the same sort of image from expert marketing.

1) Best built laptop out there honestly. Great battery life. Great quality of materials.

 

2) Easy to use. OS X is user friendly IMO compared to Windows

 

3) Sometimes you can get discounts through Apple or school.

 

4) Sometimes, Macs are the only laptops that can be bought using credit. Best Buy for example, will give you 18 months to pay it back, instead of all at once. I find that 80% of the people I know with Macbooks do this. Some other stores will do this, Best Buy does it for all laptops. Some don't.

 

5) Marketing. They're arguably the most known laptop brand out there. Sure, Mac sales pale in comparison to Windows PC sales. But are Mac sales lower than laptops in the price range? Or lower than a single line of a company like XPS or Inspiron?

 

I do love how everyone thinks mommy and daddy pays for Macbooks. Mommy and Daddy pay for all (okay majority) of the laptops, it's just which parents are push overs and which aren't.

I've put that off in favor of DDR4 and Haswell-E. Watercooling though.

1. They're pretty.

2. Common (dumb) people think they're better, safer and faster.

3. They indicate financial status.

4. They're thin?
