Microsoft introducing Office Insider Program

AlTech

Microsoft has introduced their new Office insider program. This will serve to showcase new builds with new features, bug fixes etc to enrolled users. Office insider will be exclusively for Office 365 running Windows.

Mac users won't be benefiting from this xD lol. This is what is meant by "Best on Windows" :D.

Microsoft is rolling out the first Fast ring update for members of the Windows Office Insider program. The update includes a new feature called "Share with Me". In a post on the Microsoft Answers support forum, the company reveals what "Share with Me" is all about: Here's how it works: When someone shares a document, presentation, or spreadsheet with you, that file will automatically appear when you click

Open > Shared with Me. For the file to show up in Shared with Me , the shared document must be stored on OneDrive, OneDrive for Business, or SharePoint Online.

So yeah. Microsoft is now trying harder to make people use Windows with their new "Best on Windows" strategy. Have programs which work on multiple platforms but have better integration and software on their own platform.

I imagine it's much easier to create a solid program when you design it to work with a specific software and OS. Look at people complain about PC games that are ports of console. If it wasn't designed initially for the system, it won't run optimally on that system. Good for Microsoft.

I don't get why people get upset with Microsoft for trying to restrict their software. Apple is nearly exclusively proprietary and no one bats an eye... Microsoft makes a move and people freak out.

I'd rather people learn github instead.

So they can do what? Make the next Office replacement? Nope. Office is way too integrated and too good.

But being realistic and seeing how I usually can't get users to learn to edit a simple fucking excel file, I'll settle for this.

that's not very nice thing to say.

Yup. The two are completely separate.

I'll be honest, I might have been interested in this few months ago but not anymore. I was in the slow ring and it was fine, until I got 3 BSODs on my laptop in a week as well as few other issues that shouldn't be happening. I knew what I was getting into to a degree, but after that it was no to any kind of Microsoft Insider for me for the time being.

The ability to google properly is a skill of its own.

I guess Microsoft is finally learning that it can outsource its QA to willing members of the public to save a buck or two.

Best way to get a product that customers want is to receive input/ideas straight from the customer.

Ever since the insider program started I have been a part of it, I like being able to give direct input on a product I use. :D

Best idea Microsoft ever had.

Would Apple do this? nope... because they know best what is good for the customer.

<insert Apple parody video>   lol.

(Disclaimer: I don't hate apple they just make it easy to make fun of.)

I agree wholeheartedly. I remember going through software back in the early 90's and anything you would like to run on Apple (like a game for instance) you just could not do because of Apples stingy proprietary crap and this has not really changed much, some but not much. :|
