Best CPU For 95W Limited Motherboard.

I've posted before about getting a new GFX Card.  I have the MSI 760GM-P23 which I have found out can only hold 95W CPU's.

(I Was getting the GTX770 & a FX8520 which is a 128W CPU)

- My Question : Best CPU For Gaming under 95Watts (BF3/4, TF2, CS:GO, Minecraft)

- 2nd Question what would be the best GTX Card to get the best performance out of the CPU Suggested.

Thanks all!

The FX 6300 is one of the most compelling price to performance processors, especially when it comes to gaming. In regard to the graphics cards, both the R9 270X and R9 280X are great otpions.

  • 5 weeks later...

i looked it up youre thinking of the 8350 i was refering to the 8300 witch is in fact 95 watt but the issue is its only in oem pc's (very few have it ) its basicaly a throttled 8350

http://www.techpowerup.com/177867/amd-fx-8300-starts-selling-lower-tdp-comes-at-a-price.html

Oh yeah. That's what I was thinking since nobody talks about the 8300 and often refer to the 8320/8350 as 8300.

I mean look at the OP. It says 8520...

All Specs listed below. :)

EDIT: UNITED KINGDOM LINKS PLEASE, Thanks!

1. Is the MSI 760GM-P23 the motherboard that you are currently OWN and is using with your FX-6100? Is it possible to get a new motherboard....or you'd rather not?

The motherboard is a real limiting factor on the CPU choices you have. Limiting it to 95W pretty much cuts off 75% of the AM3 / AM3+ CPUs from your list.

2. The FX-6300 is probably the best 95W TDP CPU that you can get (The FX-6350 is rated at 125W). Even so, the performance boost from your FX-6100 to a FX-6300 isn't going to be "night and day." At stock vs stock speeds, you are looking anywhere from ~3% - 15% performance increase (depending on the software / program / game).

3. Well...basically any graphics card would be okay. Of course, in any system, there will be some sort of bottleneck (whether with a i7-4960X or a FX-8350)...let it be caused by the storage (i.e. HDD), Graphics Card, CPU, RAM....motherboard.

A GTX 770 and HD 7970 / R9-280X are basically neck-to-neck in sheer performance, but in some cases, the R9-280X pulls ahead slightly - and the reviews shows this.
