Posted September 6, 2016 Hey Forum, I want some advice to create a budget build for Working and Light/Not-That-Heavy gaming. Why do I need it? Well I need some serious upgrade, my laptop is giving up on me and I don't blame it. Let me give you it's specs: Current Specs Model: Dell Latitude E6410 Processor: i7-720QM [4C 8T] (after market change: originally had: i7-620M [2C 4T]) RAM: DDR3 1066 6GB (4GB+2GB) SSD: Kingston SSDNow 250GB (Upgraded this June) GPU: dGPU: nVidia NVS3100M (512MB) - for normal use eGPU: nVidia GT710 (1GB) - for Gaming/Video Rendering My Uses Web/Desktop Development App Development VMs for virtual production server setup VMs for virtual client(s) setup Occasional Gaming CS:GO PayDay 2 Dota 2 Team Fortress Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon few more Occasional Video Editing/Rendering - 720p (rarely 1080p) Problem Now the problem is I have maxed it out and I think its giving up on me. Not its fault though, I am pushing its limits. I do get approx 30fps on most games I play but it tends to thermal shutdown. Fan works fine no dust, now I keep a blower style CPU fan on its grill to stop that, and that works. But I am pushing its limits. I have managed to pull off 6 VMs with 512MB ram on each guest OS (citrix on different hard drive). This is a beast, but its now shutting off randomly, giving BSODs and what not. So I think its time to retire it. Now that I have told you all that, let me tell you what my budget is. Budget 500USD (50,000PKR) - I am in Pakistan - Taking it from my mom cause I use up my stash for my experiments with electronic hardware (example making a 3D printer, Smart House, etc) What I understand I would have no problem going back a few generations and getting used items, plus as I am not that much of a gamer (I suck at all of the games I listed) so no high end GPU is needed honestly, I think RX460 would be enough for me. I looked at the benchmarks from HardwareUnboxing or some similar named channel, it has nice content. The guy was playing AA title on 1080 ultra so my games aren't even near those. PLus its like 15000PKR (150USD) here. Now I think I should prefer used Xeon e3 v3 or e5 v2 (both are with in 20K PKR here) but I am stuck on motherboard. I need your advise. What should I get? A part list would be good, I'll tell you if it fits my budget. Plus, I am not selling my laptop, it is my LOVE. So no cash from there.
