AMD Radeon Memory

Greetings.

I have been looking at those for some time in AMD's site. And I was curious to see if anyone had any experience with them? Doesn't matter what speed, I would like to know if you had reliability issues mostly. I haven't been having much luck with Corsair in that department.

I have some Patriot RAM sticks, I heard the AMD ones are the exact same but with a new sticker and heat-spreader! (I will say AMP is awesome unless you use Linux then it leads to all kinds of weird issues... )

it's patriot memory, memory is memory, go with what you like.

Now I am curious, I thought the Radeon Memory was made by Dataram. Unless Patriot makes Dataram. No matter. What's your history with Patriot if you had any? Any returns or problems of note?

memory fail at random regardless of brand...things to consider are cost, speed and look.

i have had bad luck with crucial sticks where as others have not...i have very very good luck with kingston and corsair kits...where others might have not.

I have only had issue with Corsair!

The main reason I am looking at this memory is because I have an A10 APU, and AMD claims it is "certified" for it. Which to me could mean that they pulled that statement out of their hat (likely) or it has something special (I doubt it). But I cant prove one or the other.

AMD memory is fine. If you like the looks and price i say get it.

Well lets see my first issue was after my last boss ordered 2 sticks of Corsair RAM for a PC we where gonna fix, one of the two sticks was DOA. That was clearly bad luck, the next time was when I ordered four 2133MHz CL9 sticks for my FM2+ system and one of the sticks where unable to pass memtest86 and it was causing random crashes. But I RMAd it and got two new sticks and now all four is good! (and I got 1 backup DDR3 stick!)

that's bullshit...if you purchase this ram it would be because

1- it's priced well

2- it's fast when compared to other sticks of the same price range

3- you like the look of it more than any other kits

 

Anything else is utter bullshit

The only difference is that their chipsets have those sticks of RAM already programed into them so you wont have to fiddle with timings and stuff.

 

And to be REALISTIC most motherboard vendors already include a fairly huge list of RAM on their QVL list anyways.  BUT, they do look super clean and nice, they offer great speeds, AND its comparability priced.

 

I own 4 sticks and am very pleased with it.

Great. Thank you. At least this memory doesn't have any notoriety, so that alone means it works. And Nena360, that's exactly the luck I have had with three 2x8 Vengeance DDR3 2400 kits in the space of one month. Between DOA sticks and memtest failures. But I guess it happens, probabbly a bad run, since all the serial numbers of all the sticks involved were consecutive.

It's rebranded Patriot, the new stuff is Hynix MFR like you find in... basically any 4/8GB kit rated for 2400+ and the older stuff is Micron. Both fine. Both run XMP/AMP.

The AMD SSDs and RAM are just rebrands, they're both overall fine though they generally aren't worth the money from what I've seen, there was a cheap 240gb AMD SSD though on newegg recently

AMD memory is just rebranded memory, made by other companies for AMD. Probably made by Patriot, or made by the same OEM company that is used by Patriot as well.

Under the heatsink, the memory chips are the same chips used by other memory manufacturers.

 

The certification is basically just a made up thing, the current AMD processors will work with ANY memory on the market, as long as it's the same format (DDR3).

 

For APUs, AMD may use that certification system to make sure users match APUs with the most suitable memories, which are the ones running at higher frequency, because the integrated video card gets slightly better performance with higher frequency memories (1866 Mhz or better).

Patriot used to be the manufacturer, and then I think they switched over to a new manufacturer.

I have two 8GB DDR3 sticks. I don'tknow who's the actual manufacturer. One is rated at 2133 CL10. The other is rated at 2400 CL11. Both run in wither timing: I suspect they are identical sticks, capable of different speed+timing combination, and got alternatively labeled at one of the many possible combinations they handle

In BIOS, I only get access to the XMP/AMP of the first module, the 2133 in this case, so I'd have to swap them to see all the timings. Oddly, the timing in the stickers correspond to the XMP profile, while the AMP profile feature some lower timings (both sticks run well if I set the 2133 AMP too). I manually set the 2400 CL11 timings to test them, and it was indeed better so I kept those (better in benchmarks, not that I could tell the difference). Come to think about it, I never got them to not work even while manually setting timings (the motherboard I used them on was more picky about a 2133 CL9 4x4 kit from G.Skill, which runs fine in a different board).

 

I hope this helps, although it's just another drop in a sea of individual experiences.
