Computer Parts Compatibility (Help Please!)

Hello,

I'm wanting to build a computer for about $1000.00 (USD) to replace a 6 year old laptop. I have picked out most of the parts that I think would give me what I want for the price point. Here are the details of what I want:

Intel I7 (wanted)

16Gb of Ram (DDR4 preffered)

Needs atleast 4 x USB 3.0 ports (and two on case)

WIFI card is not needed

4Gb of Graphics Memory - Doing some photoshoping and CAD programs

An SSD (Boot drive/large programs storage)

A HHD (about 1Tb, don't need more than that)

Case will lay flat, want a SD card reader, more quiet than showy

This computer will be used for: a lot of chrome tabs (upto about 50 at a time), Photoshop and CAD Programs (solidworks) will be ran a couple times a week. I want the computer to be able to run overnight without being to loud as it will be in my bedroom while keeping some chrome tabs open. I also want the computer to last for many years without needing any upgrades.

Here is what I have found on my own research:

CPU - Intel I7-6700 Skylake

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819117560&ignorebbr=1

Mother Board - ASRock Z170 Pro4s

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157636&ignorebbr=1

RAM - G.Skill Ripjaws V series 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231884&ignorebbr=1

Graphics Card - Gigabyte GeForce GTX 960 4GB Windforce 2x OC Edition

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814125778&ignorebbr=1

Storage SSD - Samsung 850 evo 250GB

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820147372&ignorebbr=1

Storage HHD - WD Black 1TB 7200RPM Hard Drive

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822236625&ignorebbr=1

Power Supply - EVGA 500 W1

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817438016&ignorebbr=1

Case - Fractal Design Node 605

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811352028&ignorebbr=1

So I made this post to ask if these components are compatable together or if there are any other parts that might be better then what I have found. Not all the parts need to be bought from Newegg, its just what I looked at.

If can. Get a 6700k. Z170 allows you to overclock. If the budget is pushing then get a different mobo. z170 is not needed for a 6700 (non k)

Get RX 470 instead. Perform better

Also get a WD blue. Black is not really needed for simple storage

^^what he said.  Also use PCPartPicker.  I've noticed that their compatibility checker is at least decent.  This will tell you if your parts have issues

Currently focusing on my video game collection.

It doesn't matter what you play games on, just play good games you enjoy.

Yes, I'm sure. Your PSU is Tier 6, almost one of the worst options.

It's crap, no way arount it. There aren't any good PSUs under $50. Most good ones start at around $60.

Tier 1 PSUs cost way too much for build like this. Tier 3 is where he should aim.

I found a Tier one PSU (non modular, low watts ~500W, non Haswell which can by bypassed) on sale for the price of a Tier three. Also Tier 2 PSU's had more at a reasonable price not much more then a Tier three PSU.

For $1000USD I would want a tier one PSU.

Thanks for the help, totally forgot the RX470 came out and think I'll go for that now. Don't think I'll overclock the CPU, have any suggestions for mobo then?

Thanks guys for the great input! Though, are there any suggestions for other PSU's? My knowledge of them isn't the deepest.

Thanks again!

moved to new build planning

Solve your own audio issues  |  First Steps with RPi 3  |  Humidity & Condensation  |  Sleep & Hibernation  |  Overclocking RAM  |  Making Backups  |  Displays  |  4K / 8K / 16K / etc.  |  Do I need 80+ Platinum?

If you can read this you're using the wrong theme.  You can change it at the bottom.

The PSU tier list should give enough info

Corsair CS550M comes in mind. Not too pricey and pairing with RX 470 will be enough

Yes, you can lay the S340 on the side, it would work fine.

OP doesn't need a Tier One, unless he's planning on crossfire or SLI anytime soon. That's kinda overkill.

As far as my recommendations go, either the SeaSonic S12II 520W or the Fractal Design Integra M 550W (not as good as SeaSonic, but modular).

Any tier three or higher unit from the LTT listing or tier two or higher from Tom'sHardware's tier list (maybe tier three) should be good.

May Our Framerates Be High And Our Temperatures Be Low.

PSUs: EVGA B2/G2/GQ/GS, Corsair RMx/i, Grey-Label CXM, Everything Seasonic/Delta/Super Flower, XFX except XT
