well obviously, but even so, for small businesses, renting out huge areas for LAN's is stupid expensive.  Tek Syndicate managed to host one in an old aircraft hangar, but I don't see that happening in the Vancouver area given how high priced everything is on the west coast.

We're actually working to plan out something like this in a way, LAN = Meetup. It could be really awesome, but unfortunately it wouldn't be happening for a while.

 

And yeah it would need to be elsewhere, probably not in an aircraft hangar though (I wish).

We've discussed the idea MANY times. There are a lot of moving parts in setting up something like this, and we want to make sure that we are not only covering our butts in terms of liability, but covering all attendees in terms of gear security, personal safety, affordability, etc.

So that means proper security for the LAN area, proper security for entries/exits, proper inventory management system so that no one can sign out someone else's PC or peripherals... Essentially just helping everyone sleep at night knowing that their PCs are safe

Main issues:
 

1. Expensive AF and EVERYONE does a LAN, so it's actually relatively tough to get sponsors. Need a way to differentiate the LAN a lot, and we have some great ideas, but we need to flesh them out a bit more

2. Planning time. If you just want to throw a bunch of gamers in a room for a weekend, then sure a LAN isn't that tough to plan. But we want to do it big - giveaways, tournaments, streams, videos, community interactions in a big way... Again, lots of big plans, need to flesh out more

I'd elaborate more on some of the ideas that we have, but they're still very much in the works and I don't want to ruin anything, just in case some of them actually come to light.

For now, no expectations and no official plans. But it's certainly on our radar as a cool way to engage with the community!!

Would be really awesome if something of that scale happened. Would not only be a proper LAN party, but one hosted by LTT.

Yup.  And I forgot to mention, on top of venue cost you'd also probably be paying a premium on electricity.

Venue, electricity, ballin' internet, hopefully local download servers so the connection isn't constantly limited by people downloading games, security, admissions staff, food service, etc... There are a LOT of costs that most people don't consider when setting up a LAN haha

Well this sounds like it isn't going to happen tomorrow so I guess I might not be able to come then. Great idea and maybe you could ask the community for support again like the office and have them pay a small fee to get in.

With LAN it would need to be $35 or more for seat. Maybe 1/3 for just entrance. Just meetup is much cheaper in that way.

and why go all out ?! I mean sure you are LLT , BUt throwing some gamers in to a dark alley and giving them some internet and electricity and food doesnt sound bad.

There certainly will need to be a fee, but we would want everyone who attends to either a) leave with a product or products that are of greater value than their entry fee or b) have such an amazing experience that their entry fee ends up feeling trivial.
