Building a PC in Singapore

1. Budget & Location

About $1100 - $1300 SGD ($800 - $900 USD)

In Singapore.

2. Aim

Gaming at 1080p and 3d modelling.

3. Monitors

Just the one.

4. Peripherals

I already have a monitor and a good mouse. I'm lacking a good keyboard. I'll definitely need windows.

5. Why are you upgrading?

I have a laptop sporting a GTX 750M. It has run most games at about 40fps for the past couple of years, but its struggling to keep pace with newer games (Witcher 3 runs at an unplayable <10fps on the lowest setting) and renders with more than one source of light take a whole day to finish.

I would like to future proof my PC, but I'm really not sure if my build is good or bad.

http://pcpartpicker.com/user/Jiefwng/saved/M7txFT

This is what I have so far. (Prices in SGD. 1USD = ~1.4SGD)

CPU + Motherboard: i5 6500 +Asrock Z170 Pro 4 - $498

CPU Cooler: Cooler master 211p - $35

RAM: Kingston DDR4 2133 MHz 8GB - $55

SSD: SanDisk Ultra II - $114(240GB) - $190(480GB)

HDD: Seagate 1TB - $68

GPU: SAPPHIRE NITRO Radeon Rx 480 8gb - $400

PSU: CoolerMaster G650M 650W - $115

Case: Cooler master n300 - $68

Seasonic 620W M12-II is about the same price, but would it be able to power a crossfire configuration if I were to pick up a second RX 480?

Remember to get it from reputable shops like fuwell

And replace that PSU with the m12ii 620w which shd be ard same price

You dont need a z170 motherboard, replace it with a h170 and save some cash

What kind of 3D modeling are you doing?

I know 3ds max, Sketchup and Lumion.

Also, AutoCAD, Photoshop and I'm picking up Premier, for drafting, storyboarding and video editing respectively.

Will I be able to run a crossfire configuration with that board? I'd rather have that option.

Also, are cybermind  and bizgram reputable? Kind of a rookie on Sim Lim square as a whole.

TBH you shouldnt even be crossfiring anything esp with a budget card like rx480 anyways (trust me ive walked the path of thinking if i shd crossfire and got a 850w PSU for a single GPU xD)

Yes h170 does support crossfire

I heard bad things about bizgram from other shops

But i would still go to PC themes/Bestbargains/Fuwell. These are my recommended shops

If you're a newbie in sls, go to pcthemes and ask for help with yilong kor kor. VERY friendly guy, no doubt will help you with your pc. I shop at bizgram the guys not that friendly. Cybermind still ok.

CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 5600X Heatsink: Gelid Phantom Black GPU: Palit RTX 3060 Ti Dual RAM: Corsair DDR4 2x8GB 3000Mhz mobo: Asus X570-P case: Fractal Design Define C PSU: Superflower Leadex Gold 650W

I see. Well, I'd like to have the option so if I need an upgrade I could just pick up a second RX 480 instead of spending on a more expensive gpu. I'll see how it goes. Thanks guys!

Trust me single GPU is still the best outcome (sell rx480 buy new gpu is better than crossfiring 2 rx480)

you should just get one rx 480 now, then sell away the 480 and get a better gpu in the future instead. but if you insist, get a 650-750w psu and a mobo with 2 pci-e 16x physical slots.

I think that if you are gonna use all those 3d modeling software, you might want to add more ram.

I used to use unreal engine 4, and 8GB of ram is quite limited.

However you can always add some more ram later, if you find yourself do not have enough ram to work with.

Normally people will said that 8GB is plenty for normal usage.

For me, it was not enough. I run some background software like steam, origin, fraps, rainmeter etc, then when I play Battlefield 4, I got a warning said I do not have enough ram.

Just my 2 cents. Totally up to you.

Spoiler

And I miss Singapore..... And everything about it, the food , the weather, people there, my friends, everything.

If it is not broken, let's fix till it is.

So crossfire is a bust? Shame, was hoping that the red team would score for once. I'm a sucker for underdogs. I guess I'll stick with a single GPU.

This doesn't just apply to AMD, nvidia does have the exact same issues too.

@Jiefwng btw, use the lazada app codes today and save money on the components, they expire today.

Then you are going to want to get 16gb of ram. 8gb is going to be tough with AutoCad.

I got the case and the ssd, just when i decided to get the GPU, the price went back up to 388 T_T

Anyway, thanks for your help!

That does mean that AMD cant beat Nvidia though. Their highest performance graphics card (at the moment) cant beat Nvidia's lowest performance card.

I think I'm going with the GTX 1060, since the price is about the same and the performance is better.

no problem :) don't get the gtx 1060 3gb btw, its weaker than the gtx 1060 6gb and quite a few games use more than 3gb of vram.
