Hey guys. I have a ddr4 ram kit that is rated for a speed of 2400 MHz but tried 2666 MHz to see if it would work. Well, it did not. The pc kept on turning on and trying to boot and would then turn off. So, i shut off the power supply, cleared the cmos and pressed memokay on my motherboard that resets the ram speed. I have an asus z170-e board by the way. This worked and I was able to get into the bios and change the settings that needed to be changed and the pc is completely stable now with xmp enabled. So, I was wondering if something if this could have damaged other parts in my computer or if motherboards have technology that will prevent any damage from happening. Thanks!

Nope, you're fine. Did you increase voltage btw?

Then that's most likely why your OC failed. Increase your voltage to 1.35 and try again. Should at the very least boot.

Thanks for the advice! Do you agree with darkblade about if this damaged any other components?? @Imakuni

Your PC is fine. Relax, that's normal behavior when OCing.

Thanks guys for the reassurance. @Teddy07

@Imakuni

By the way, it was restarting repeatedly because it was trying to train the timings. Adjusting your ram's clock speed has an impact on RTL/IO-L training. Depending on quality of board, it will automatically train after just a few restarts. However, some boards are pretty awful with automatic training, and can end up in a boot loop. Easiest way to fix this, is to look for an option called MRC Fast Boot, and disable it. It is normally located in your ram settings.

As @Imakuni and @DarkBlade2117 said, an increase in vDIMM will help. If you want to overclock, try 1.35v VDIMM, and manually input VCCIO to 1.15, and VCCSA to 1.15 as well. Keep timings at their default configuration, and see how high the clock speed moves until it is no longer able to post. When it fails to post, try to loosen the primary timings to see how high you can get the clock speed. If it still fails to budge, then you hit your ram's overclocking wall. Go back to the last successful post settings, and dial that in manually. From here, you can get extra bandwidth by touching tertiary timings, or simply leave everything alone and stress test it. Either way, good luck.

Some cars prevent you from doing so, to prevent damaging the clutch.

Pretty sure your clutch would wear down faster doing this. Would not advise it.
