The 280X is a rebrand of the 7970 and I guess gigabyte didn't give two shits to redesign the cooler. The cooler and PCB is the same as the HD7970/7950 WindForce

I really dislike gigabyte cards, i feel like they are always cheaply made. I know this isnt true but the feeling of products is important to me!

They probably did it because it was cheaper to make..

The 280X is a rebrand of the 7970 and I guess gigabyte didn't give two shits to redesign the cooler. The cooler and PCB is the same as the HD7970/7950 WindForce

But the 270X is a rebrand of 7870 which also used old ugly Windforce...

I've always thought Gigabyte hasn't much cared for AMD... Guess they don't.

They probably have shitloads of HD7970s lying around so they are just reboxing/relabelling them and when they are all gone I'm sure there will be an updated design. If you look at the video inputs its exactly the same as the HD7970, its not an R9-280x, just a reboxed HD7970.

This is what I was thinking, as for the 270x having the new design, I don't think many 7870XT's where made in comparison to the 7970Ghz. So quick BIOs flash and they can shift the old 7970's as the new 280X's.

I make a point of never buying asrock boards and gigabyte cards for the same reason. Cheaply made, and have a tendancy to fail me...

yeah, Gigabite cards look very simple and ugly. Just blue pcb and coolers above them. However despite their design, they make great performance cards.
