Is this pc powerferful enough?

compupertortoise

I have this laptop that has i5-2520m with intel hd graphics 3000, 4GB ram. Will it be able to stream at 720p @30fps with decent quality using this guide ? Or should I just buy a capture card.

use a capture card

OBS stream uses a lot of CPU power and the i5 are only dual cores with HT

Budget? Uses? Currency? Location? Operating System? Peripherals? Monitor? Use PCPartPicker wherever possible.

If you use the laptop for pc #1, it should work. As long as it does what you are planning to stream smoothly. Guessing you will use your main rig for the encoding task (pc #2). You could try it as it is free software and see what happens.

no, get something external i would say, that CPU is pretty week tbh

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

Builds:

The Toaster Project! Northern Bee!

The original LAN PC build log! (Old, dead and replaced by The Toaster Project & 5.0)

Not all i5's are dual core, the one in my rig is a quad core, the i5-####M's are dual core's, i3's and pentiums (if I am correct) are all dual core no matter what.

Also, like people were saying before me, if your using this computer to stream and that's it then it's probably good enough, I'd test the stream first though, it's a bit choppy then use a capture card.

Brah, do you even Java?

Like it says in that guide, if you have i7 pc doing rendering, sure. If not, get capture card.
