1060 or 960/970w/ ssd?

230473_1454181719
Go to solution Solved by HKZeroFive,

Seems like the RX 480 vs GTX 1060 is the new R9 390 vs GTX 970. Always manages to end in some sort of shitshow.

I am planning to buy an msi gtx 1060 and I've talked with the person who build my pc and he told me that an 400€ gpu is not worth it...instead I should buy an 200-250€gpu with an ssd...

My pc is 4 years old with am quad core i5 a gt 640

I would like to know your thoughts on that and if the gpu+ssd is more worth bying than just the 1060

I would advise you GTX970, but since there's a lot of talking about it having only 3,5GB ram being it crappy(which I don't know why yet), but instead you should look into RX470 or even RX480.

The last 512MB memory chunk runs on a slow 32-bit memory interface and thus causes stuttering in games when they start using it.

I am aware of that. I wrote a post here if it's worth brand new for 200-220 eur and everybody said it's not because it will get old quite fast and because of 0,5gb ram issue. I am sticking with 1080p gaming btw.

It already is. Modern games use over 4GB at 1080p max.

Okay. Then, explain me, why everybody is still advising RX470 for 1080p gaming? 4GB of ram, same price point. Since I am only playing CSGO and will play BF1 later and maybe something which will catch my eye.

Cause it's 150$ and not meant for 1080p ultra? That's where the 480 comes in.

It's not. It's 200 eur card, and is advertised as that. I get that RX480 is really, really good investment but I don't get why 970 or RX470 is not advised as budget-tier card. Hell, even my GTX750 can run GTA V and BF4 on Ultra without AA, HSAA and other eye candy things. That's where my misunderstanding comes in.

Well, for one. 470 has 4GB, 970 has 3.5GB which messes up SYS RAM caching.

Secondly, the EU price of the 970 was 350eu (for me at least) whereas the 470 is 200eu. (VAT, yay)

Lastly - 750 Ti cannot run GTA V on ultra. I've tried. Not at 1080p anyway.

You are willing to give 100Eu for 5% more performance? That is frankly retarded. Go ahead, waste your money...

Ekhemm, EVGA card can be grabbed for 250 eur at official store. And from third parties, you can get for 200 euros around.

Not for me. 970 is STILL more expensive than a 480 locally.

Don't. That's why Nvidia is where it is right now.  Keep in mind that RX480 is better than 1060 at DX12 and Vulcan, is cheaper and have extra 2GB ram.

I found brand new at craiglist-type site, brand new, with factory guarantee for 230 euros. That's why I am hesitating.

Well, where I live, the town is so small that I could track the guy in few hours. There's no problem with that. But still, GTX970 could be purchased for 259 from official store.
