New Intel Gaming Rig [Ideas] (Switching from amd)

Editie

I feel its time for my PC to have a make over.

Here is my current build.

CPU - AMD FX 8320

MOBO - Gigabyte 970A-DS3P

GPU - GTX 770

SSD - Muskin 120GB

HARD DRIVE - 3 x 1 TB

PSU - Corsair TX650 V2

Here is my current idea on an intel build.

PcPartPicker Link.

I am able to use my current Case and CPU cooler as it supports both amd and intel so I can save on 2 of them.

I also could save on the PSU as i have a Corsair TX650 V2.

But if you can recommend a better CPU cooler than my current (NZXT Havik 140) post below.

I mainly play Games and some times stream to twitch.

Also if you know of any good highend Monitors (144hz) that would be a bonus too as I can get that later in the year.

My overall budget for the intel build is around £1300 tops.

An i5 will bottleneck a 1070 at 1080p even when overclocked, but it will still be fine for up to 120hz monitors (144hz with a i5 will be a slight waste).

Please quote our replys so we get a notification and can reply easily. Never cheap out on a PSU, or I will come to watch the fireworks.

That would depend what type of games you are playing. Both cards are very similar in performance, but the 1070 beats out the 980ti slightly (Of Course it would). If playing very CPU intensive games (City skylines, open world games in general), the i7 may help some. But if play more GPU intensive games or games that are more single threaded (Most AAA games or FPS), the i5 + 1070 would be faster.

Mainly Dota 2, Star wars BF, Arma 3, BF4, Tera Rising, Plan to buy few games this year.

Although AMRA would probably benefit from more threads, it will still run fine with an i5. I would get an i5 and 1070 as this is more balanced. Wouldn't an i7 6700K be cheaper than a 4790K? It is here in Australia.

That's probably one of the best that you can get on consumer market so yea, all good.

Make sure you have that cooler.

at 1440p yes. At 1080 it's serious. We're talking 15-20%
