What will the AMD Zen bring to the table?

It has been teased this year and there is no official date of release. But what will it bring? Other than the fact that it will perform as good as Haswell technology. (These are opinions I am looking for. Unless you have facts) Will it be budget friendly $100-$200 cpu's. Will it be better than the Core i5's and Core i7's 4k series, and last but not least is there any way these chips can be used in socket types such as AM3+ allowing current AMD users to not have to upgrade their motherboard?

Supposedly it will be Amds return to the CPU game.

If you have no ideas on what it'll bring then there is no point on shitting on it. I just made this for people to help me understand on what to expect from the AMD Zen and if it's worth the wait. If you're a Intel Fanboy. Then just stop where you are. Turn off your computer, and think about your life.

I might be wrong, but I thought Zen was going to be on AM4?

My guess is it will be high core count, with lots of cache, 4ghz+ clock speeds, and comparable to Haswell for gaming.  It will run hot, and be priced over $300.  That's my guess and you can take it to the bank!  It will also be good for making pancakes.

Hopefully it'll be AMD's resurrection cause if it's not then bad things will happen. Like Intel getting a monopoly and average CPUs costing at least a grand.

It's going to need to come in about a hundred cheaper than that if it wants to actually sell to more than amd hardcores.

It will bring a new unified socket.  No more APU only and CPU only sockets.  The chipset will likely bring current features such as revision 3 PCIE, usb 3 possibly up to C and DDR4.  There will also no longer be shared float points (pretty sure at least) and instead have multi thread technology.  It looks promising for budget enthusiasts.  No idea if it will have direct pcie and how many lanes that it might have.

There's something cool here - you just can't see it.

Alright kiddo, cool your jets.

I want AMD to be back, but the last generation was supposed to be AMD's big comeback. So we don't know what to expect, there's no point getting hyped, wait for benchmarks.

So ease off the keyboard warrioring and just be patient.

Sorry, but. Every time I try to make discussion with people about AMD and their new products and doing some lite gaming on their 8350. People flip out about how good Intel is and start making fun of me and calling me name just because I like AMD. It's never happened here on this website but in CSGO and TeamSpeak lobbys it happens a lot.

Heres my prediction gathered from all the information i have:

AMD brings a FM4 Zen Based CPU to compete with the i3s and i5s (this is like the mainstream intel LGA 1150/1151)

for the Pentiums/i3s

a dual core with multithreading (2C/4T) priced at $65

for the i5s

a quad core on the scale of haswell  priced at $150

for the i7  mainstreams

a quad core with multithreading (near the performance of a i7 4770)  priced at $225

for the Big momma (AM4)

A Hex Core comparable to a i7 5820k without hyperthreading for $275

a Hex core with Multithreading (basically an i7 5820K) for $325

a Octa-core with Multithreading (comparable to a i7 4960x) priced at $600

A 16 Core CPU with multthreading priced at the $1000 price tag

this is the bottom line:

IPC close to haswell priced Aggresively will put AMD back on top from the sheer number of sales.

and its ipc improvement will be closer to 60-90%

-Crapbook

Fully specced out early 2013 Macbook "pro" with gt 650m and constant 105c temperature on the CPU (GPU is 80-90C) when doing anything intensive...

A 2013 laptop with a regular sized battery still has better battery life than a 2017 laptop with a massive battery! I think this is a testament to apple's ability at making laptops, or maybe how little CPU technology has improved even 4+ years later (at least, until the recent introduction of 15W 4 core CPUs). Anyway, I'm never going to get a 35W CPU laptop again unless battery technology becomes ~5x better than as it is in 2018.

Apple knows how to make proper consumer-grade laptops (they don't know how to make pro laptops though). I guess this mostly software power efficiency related, but getting a mac makes perfect sense if you want a portable/powerful laptop that can do anything you want it to with great battery life.

Thank you for replying with this. I understand these are predictions but I can indeed see these as being very close to the actually prices and what AMD will be doing to compete. Also, if this is close. I'd buy the one that competes with the Core i5. Same price as the 8350. Cheaper than a core i5 and has equal to or even better performance (Basing off of the 4k series)

Lisa Su (CEO of AMD) has already told investors that ZEN will be more than a 40% IPC improvement.  lying to the investors would be a fatal move

my guess is this within striking range of Skylake. somewhere between broadwell and skylake. and intel will only be 10-15% faster with their kaby lake series. all AMD has to do is price ZEN 15% lower than  Kaby lake and they are a very serious contender.  if priced low enough, they could completely canabalize the higher end i7 sales.
