Looking for Quad SLI support Z97 1150 Mobo!

Hiho,

I've had enough of Gigabyte. I sent their motherboard for RMA and it arrived with uncontrollable BIOS which was overvolting my CPU and now it doesn't work at all yet again.

 

I'm looking for a new Motherboard Z97 (DEFINITELY NOT GIGABYTE) that supports Quad SLI (PLX chip). I tried looking for a decent one but couldn't find anything. Could someone suguest a good Z97 Motherboard for 4790k? Thanks in advance.

why not ditch 1150 altogether and get a 2011-3 Setup? 4xwhatever Cards will be bottlenecked even by your 5jigahertz i7. And you also get native 40 lanes.

Did you update the bios to the latest version allready?

Its indeed not a unkown fact that using a devils canyon cpu on some Z87 boards have some overvolting issues.

If you have not tried to update the bios to the latest version, then firstly do that.

If you still have overvolting issues, then its better to pick a Z97 board yes.

i need to check which other Z97 board that do have plx chips..

Umm you need at least 8 pcie lanes to run a nvidia gpu (you want 4 gpus), and the 4790k only has 16 lanes so.....

Here is a list of all the Z97 boards with a plx chip.

I have posted it in the past on this forum

 

These boards all contain a plx chip.

1. Msi Z97 xpower.                         32 lanes
2. Asrock Z97 Extreme 9.               34 lanes
3. Gigabyte GA-Z97X Gaming GT  32 lanes
4. Gigabyte GA-Z97X Gaming G1  32 lanes
5. Asus Z97 WS                             32 lanes

These are the only options you have as far as i know.

The Asrock Z97 Extreme 9 is probably very expensive.

The Asus Z97 WS is sollid but might be expensive aswell.

The Msi Z97 Xpower is probably your cheapest option if you could find one.

 

I would personaly probably go with the Asus.

Not selling my CPU. It's not going to be bottle necked. I know what I'm doing.

Yes I need a PLX chip one. Not buying Gigabyte shit ever again.

That's not how it works with PLX chip.

Yeah well keep in mind that that the Asus Z97 WS is basicly a board that is more geared towards workstation and professional use, rather then gaming.

Of course can game totaly fine on it.

But in terms of onboard audio it will be a step down from a Gaming oriented board like a Gigabyte Z97X G1 gaming for example.

Same story can be said about the Asrock.

Nothing will be affected when it comes to gaming as far as I'm aware. With this shitty GA-Z87x OC FORCE I could game like I would on normal gaming motherboard. I'm just looking for a solid motherboard that is not shitty and comes from a company that offers much better customer support.

Well Asus is renowned for their awful customer support. The board manufacturers are all equally bad (EVGA is apparently good, MSI alright). I've RMA'd boards from everyone except EVGA and Gigabyte and MSI were probably the best though it's hard to quantify.

 

Asus (both consumer and enterprise support) is definitely the worse though - would've been a lawsuit if not for freak circumstances. Their boards are typically solid though.

RMA´s are allways kinda a pain in the ass nomatter which company.

I personaly never realy had an issue with Asus.

But yeah they do indeed make sollid motherboards.

To be fair Asus mobo is about £300 and it's 2x the price I paid for my shitty Gigabyte one. MPower Z97 is end of life so I can't buy it new. The last option is Gigabyte SOC Z97. But it's Gigabyte and it sucks.

The Gigabyte Z97 SOC Force boards dont feature a plx chip if im right.

You could look for the Asrock Z97 Extreme 9, but that board is a monster as far as connectivity options etc goes.

On X99 the Asrock X99 Extreme 9 is one of the most expensive boards on that platform.

So i suppose that on Z97 it will be expensive aswell.

The problem you are currently facing is that you platform is dead EOL.

So its going to be harder and harder to find a decent motherboard for it.

Especialy with the specifics needs you are looking at.

Your choice is allready limmited to the options i posted above as far as i know.

 

I would personaly advice to maybe concider X99.

But yeah it will cost allot of cash, unless you can sell your mobo + cpu combo.

 

Another option would be Skylake with a Z170 board with plx.

But then i need to look again which particular Z170 boards that do have plx asside from the Gigabyte G1 gaming.

I can't do any of those things. 1st: Too expensive. 2nd: I'd have to sell my current motherboard, 32gb RAM, water cooling, and CPU. Way too much to sell.

 

Gigabyte Z97 SOC supports Quad SLI.

I thought that the Gigabyte Z97 Soc boards did not come with plx.

But if so then that is nice to know.

I do know that there are 2 versions of the Z97 soc boards.

On which the main diffrences were the lan and the VRM implementation.

But maybe also a plx chip then.

I need to double check that then.
