linux Good Linux Distro for someone with some experience

I'm thinking about Debian because Ubuntu will be no fun, I don't have time to do Arch. I've been using Linux on and off for almost 2 years now, any suggestions?

Try OpenSUSE. I gave it a try just for shits and gigs and ended up really liking it. It's no harder to install or use than Debian (the installer is actually very similar) and it's way more up to date than Debian is, especially if you run Tumbleweed. 

 

If you really wanted to try Arch, ArchBang is a good place to start, or Manjaro/Antergos if you want to do even less work.

IDK i've been using apt based distros for the whole time i've been using linux, it will be a big change but i'll probably end up trying it.

i actually really, REALLY dislike elementary.

 

it just feels like a skinned debian thats dumbed down as much as possible, to the point they forgot some pretty major things...

 

oh, and to make it look like a mac. it feels like it just exists to have a linux distro that looks like a mac.

You'll pick it up really quickly. For OpenSUSE, the commands are, "zypper in" for install, "zypper up" for update, "zypper rm" to remove a package. SUSE has a cheatsheat on their website somewhere, I'll try to find it for you and link it

If I ever get a laptop I might put elementary on it because with laptops there are other concerns such as battery, and plus it will wow my friends!

i dont recall what it was anymore, but i tried elementary and needed "something that should have been in there by default", i ended up having to add a debian distro in order to get what i wanted to have.

 

i'm not sure anymore, but it was something basic like having a terminal...

That really makes me reconsider, if it's the terminal what were they thinking! Even Windows has CMD!

I use Tumbleweed, but it really doesn't matter. Most people will tell you to go the safe route and use Leap (more stability because it's not rolling release), but I've had no problems with Tumbleweed. Your choice really.

Yeah, same with mint last time I checked. They should really change because 16.04 works on my surface pro and 14.04 doesn't. I would use it more often, but the Wifi doesn't work at my school

you actually have to manually type 0 dollars to get a free download (which IMO is a way bigger leap towards nope than ubuntu's "no thanks just let me download" button)

 

i'm downloading their latest ISO, if its the same as i downloaded last time i'm putting a full nope on elementary.

Nah, Mint 18 just came out which is based on 16.04, but they were on 14.04 for the longest time because they base their releases on Ubuntu LTS releases

Really, last time I checked which was a few months ago it was in beta, I don't really like Mint anymore though.

It annoys me how they do that, the first time I used linux, I thought you had to pay for Ubuntu
