the need for clock ?

ok the thing is like this i do not understand why u people overclock stuff please explain this to me

thanks in advance

so the this is like this

ur gpu runs every game on more than 60 fps then why overclock it ?

ur ram  runs @ 1300 mhz why u guys make it 1600 mhz  whats the need ?

ur cpu runs great on stock clocks why u overclock it  how do u know u need to oc ?

u need only one monitor then why do u hook up like three how do u know u need more than one  ?

Overclocking increases performance. Simple as that. For GPU / CPU - you will get higher frames / do things marginally faster.

Most of the time; however, it's just for dat e-peeeeeeeeeeen.

You get better performance with overclocking basicly for free. Moniters are a personal choice but more than one helps multitasking. Also its fun and another thing to do with our computers.

Overclocking RAM is useless I agree, but OCing a GPU is useful, same for the CPU. I'm not sure everyone's GPU run modern games in maxed settings or so. OCing it allow you to put better settings/filters. If you run everygame solid 60 on maximum settings, then you're lucky, but it's foolish to assume it's the case for everyone.

A CPU has more applications than gaming only, OCing can benefit in other applications.

why would any one need more fps when there refresh rate is only 60 hz ?

You want to know why I want more performance when it's free?  There's your answer, it's free.  Might I make a suggestion, when asking questions like this, please use proper words and punctuation.  I think everyone here can agree, in a setting like this, when you write dumb, you look dumb.

Sometimes frames will dip below 60 in games. Overclocking increases frames, thereby helping to keep your framerate at or above 60. Overclocking CPUs can increase performance in things like CPU bound games, file conversion, video editing, photo editing, etc. In terms of monitors, depends. If you have multiple displays, it increases productivity and allows you to do things like be on the forum and watch videos at the same time without sacrificing screen real estate to have those things displayed. If you're using Eyefinity or Surround, it increases your view when playing games, thereby improving your gaming experience in both viewing estate and screen resolution. Overclocking RAM can result in increased performance in things like file conversion and video editing. Everywhere else gives you negligible benefits.

The "energy" your PC uses, is well, yeh...overclocking doesn't exactly add very much at all.

Its basically free performance increase.

You don't necessarily need to spend money on a better cooler to overclock, although it is highly recommended. CPUs and GPUs are capable of overclocking out of the box, and given you aren't paying more for the extra performance in this case, it is considered free. From a factual standpoint, an overclock (however small it may be) is still considered to be an overclock and by extension, free performance.

OCing isn't mandatory. There's nothing wrong with not doing it, but the majority view it as something they would like to take part it.

Right now my PC can handle Metro Last Light no problem but on full details the FPS dip sometimes. As far as Overclocks go, the only thing worth overclocking would be my GPU, since games are GPU bound tasks not CPU bound. But graphics cards mostly OC just marginally, so i will get only a few FPS out of it if not just instability problems!

A better solution would be a bigger graphics card, like in my case a GTX 780.

For CPUs I'd say OCing is only for when they get old. Right now there is no game/task that can load my CPU 100%, so why even bother OCing? That changes in maybe 3 years when a few generations of CPUs have come out and games get even more demanding.

who cares...

There is a few reasons people overclock, performance increase is nice. However a large portion of people get an itch just to push our hardware and see what we can make it do.

If you are an MMO player CPU overclocking is almost mandatory because the majority are poorly optimized and the need to increase the frequency as they front load their workload on cores 0 and 1. For example @ full ultra World of Warcraft can't sustain 60fps in 25m raiding with a 4960x + 780.

Why a computer when you  can watch paint dry.

Why do youneeda car to goto workwhen you can walk

Why do youneed a house when you can live in a cave.

We overclock because it will make everything better . It just like having a faster car or having a bigger house.
