Mini-ITX case, first time building a PC

laminutederire

Haven't got a name for it and it doesn't look impressive since it's small, but I'm pretty happy with it. I wanted a 1080p-1440p gaming machine with a good cpu for scientific calculation (yay engineering school).

I was looking for a 1000€ computer, I ended spending 1300€ for it,but it was worth the extra mile, I could have lived without a second drive, and with a less expensive gpu as well, rounding it down to like 1100€.

Parts are the following:

[To be updated shortly with the right format]

CPU: i5-6600k

CPU cooler: Noctua NH-U12S

GPU: r9 fury nitro tri-x OC

Motherboard: Asus z170i pro gaming

Memory: 2x8Go Crucial Ballistix sport DDR4 2400MHz (CL16)

PSU: Enermax Revolution XT ERX530AWT 80 PLUS gold  (530W)

Case: Fractal Design Core 500

Boot drive: 500GB Samsung 850 evo

Second drive: 2To Seagate Barracuda  (7200 rpm)

Extra fans: 1 Noctua NF-F12 PWM for Push/pull configuration for the heatsink

1 enermax  Twister Pressure UCTP12 for the case airflow.

OS: Windows 10 pro.

I first build everything without the gpu and the second drive, because those weren't bought yet.

Here are all the boxes for it:

The final build looks like this:

20160720_192059.jpg

Build issues:

-space was damn tight, cable management was pretty hard to do.

-build order was tricky on order to have sufficient access to the motherboard to plug everything in correctly.

- I had to place the dust filter outside because fans were touching it.

- the psu would have been better had it been shorter, since it it stretched out by the gpu heatsink.

Like that:

What do you guy think? :)

Maybe better cable management. It might hurt the temps...

Well all cable are tied to be placed out of airflow whenever possible. How could I do it better?

Nice build! I regret not going mATX, hopefully this will serve you well.

Throw up some benchmarks too ;)

alsi what made you go with the fury? Beast of a card though.

Bleigh!  Ever hear of AC series?

Huge discount, it was at 339€, the price of 1060's :P

About the same fps/€ than the rx 480 thanks to the discount.

Which benchmarks should I throw in?

Oh wow awesome! And it should age well too ;) just looked on eBay now that you said that... Regrettably none so good.

Valley benchmark ark is free, and if you keep and eye out 3DMark is often on sale for about a fiver :) other then that just dinking around in some games I guess!

Honestly for this being your first build... It's damn good.
mITX cases are not too easy to build in, you jumped right into the deep end, Cable management can be improved. but you won't be doing much without buying custom length cable replacements because it's such a small case; so no marks off for you there!

Component choices are great, I wouldn't have changed much!

Great job! Enjoy your new PC! :)

I hope so, the 4GB of HBM may be it's weakness for the future, but that's okay since it's designed for 1080p or 1440p :)

In game I found that doom at ultra 1080p runs amazingly well. I'm talking about something averaging in the 160 fps or something like that, or even more sometimes.

Thanks a lot :)

The gpu would've been an RX 480 if thé fury wasn't on drastic sale. It felt balanced

Huh, maybe not. But like you say. At reasonable resolutions it should keep on beasting!

Oh wow. ThAt makes me jealous! I presume with Vulkan ;)

Maybe not?

It's not a 4K card anyway, no card yet is, maybe the new titan X but hey, that's not for anyone :)

Yeah with Vulkan. Without it I have 50 fps less approximately,  it's so amazing !
