Thermal paste on bottom of cpu

So long story short I got some thermal paste on the bottom of my cpu. I got it off with a coffee filter,  but there is a little left that you can't get off using a dry coffee filter.  Is it safe to use isopropyl alcohol on the bottom of the cpu to get it off?

Q-tip may work better.

But wouldn't a q-tip leave fibers though?  What do you recommend me to use for the contact points?

After it's dry (a few hours, tops, with 91% isopropyl), hit it with compressed air for a few seconds. That'll take care of any fibers.

It can leave fibers, but blowing it off should be enough to get the fibers off. Of course, you can also be careful not to remove any fibers from the q-tip(like scraping against sharp material for example).

What are the chances that doing this is will damage your cpu? It works on my current motherboard, but since I'm upgrading motherboards, I want it to be clean and have nothing on the bottom.

As far as leaving fibers on it, using a q-tip, or using isopropyl alcohol?

If you're gentle about it and do more dabbing than digging with the Q-tip, give it ample time for the alcohol to dry and make sure you shoot all the fibers off, very low.

0% for the chemical itself.

We use it heavily at my workplace, and we build military electronics.
