Buying a gaming pc tomorrow. What are the things I need to know?

RedLineGamer

Other than hardware related, what do I need to know before switching to pc gaming? Are pc gamers different than console gamers?

You could argue that the skill gap is different if we compare keyboard + mouse to a controller and the absence of aim assist.

Other than that, there still will be dickheads. Be warned.

The thing I really want to know is why the hell overwatch is not cross platform? ps4 plays only with ps4 and xb1 plays only with xb1 and pc only plays with pc!

My friends play overwatch on a pc! What a bs!

There is no difference, though it depends highly on the games you play, CSGO, LoL or Battlefield/ COD.. all cancer.

I'd assume because the skill gap is different. PC gamers will naturally have an advantage with a mouse and keyboard over a controller.

Overwatch isn't cross platform because the PC guys would absolutely positively horrendously flat out gutter stomp the console guys. Mouse and keyboard are by far better for shooters.

1) If you build your own PC, you repair it.

2) You can use controllers on PC, but mouse and keyboard are the most reccomended.

3) Unless you have a wireless controller, forget about couch gaming. If you saw Linus' video about it, you know what I'm talking about.

I don't know specifically what Blizzard's reasons are for keeping Overwatch matchmaking restricted by platform, but I think one of the biggest obstacles is that using a mouse/keyboard is a major competitive advantage over analog gamepads in shooters. You want to be going up against other players with Xbox pads if you're using an Xbox pad.

Unfortunately, cross-platform multiplayer is kinda rare in general. You see it occasionally for other types of games, such as Rocket League, where the differences between analog and digital control are not as pronounced or detrimental to the gameplay.

Just to add some detail to this… If a component is malfunctioning or defective, you can contact the manufacturer of that component and typically get a replacement. You're not going to be doing any soldering—unless you want to, I guess. If something goes wrong with your power supply you won't need to repair that yourself, but you'll need to be able to remove it from the case and install a replacement.

Prepare to lot of troubleshooting. Since PC is modular, there's always possibility that either hardware or software has issues.

In games you have settings for more than just volume and controls.
