RX 480 or a GTX 1060

I have 300$ to upgrade my graphics card and i'm wondering if what grafics card I sould upgrade to.

 

My current PC...

-AMD FX-6300(CM Hyper 212 EVO)

-NVidia GeForce GTX 950

-ASRock 970 Fatal1ty Pro

-8g EVGA Superclocked RAM(2x4)

-Seagate 1TB HDD

-5 Arctic F12 PMW PST

-KINGWIN FPX-005

-Corsair RM650

Not 100% sure but you should probably Upgrade your CPU first.

The two GPUs are in different price brackets and both are 'bang for buck'. It's up to you how much you want to spend, I would personally go GTX 1060 if budget allows.

at that price point, 1060.

I would recommend the RX 480 due to better DX12 support (AMD has dedicated hardware for Asynchronous compute which is the heart of DX12 and Nvidia lacks this hardware) The 480 will last you longer and can save you some cash. I would recommend the 4GB model for $200. About $50 cheaper than most any 1060 but if you can get an 8GB 480 that works too.

They are in different price brackets really and the 1060 is better so get it if you have the money, but remember, you can only use a single card with the 1060 so if you want to upgrade you have to get a whole new GPU.

 

I would go for the RX 480 since you can pick one up later and you'll have great performance. Also, go for the 8GB version, wouldn't suggest 4GB of VRAM in this stage of PC gaming.

4GB+ is only needed if he is doing above 1080p gaming and or VR......but seeing as its a 480 I think he is going for 1080p where 4GB is more than enough for most titles.

FX 8350. people will tell you to get an i5 but if you want to save money and stay on the same platform, i would recommend it. i am currently running one myself and it works great

I don't know if you can call it screwed but in VR and Multi monitor setups with SMP they are clearly ahead of AMD. Just one thing to maybe consider aswell

I do like the Idea of upgrading in the future with the RX 480... But does the blower cooler really suck?

The 1060 wont be running multi monitor games at any decent settings tbh......

83C with an overclock under max load. Its actually not that bad at all. And the fan is much quieter than previous blower coolers.

maybe at 1080p, but definitely not at 60fps on high settings still. Too many compromises imo.

To anyone brave enough I reccomend buying an aftermarket fan (Static pressure, high performance), then taking the RX 480's shroud off and sticking the fan in tront of the heatsink with rubber bands / zip ties. This small mod will improve the acoustics of the card while keeping it quiet
