For one, rooting you can get access to alot of apps. For instance on my flex 2, it would overheat like crazy. So i downloaded kernal auditor and disabled 2 of my big cores and underclocked them.

Or lets say you install xposed(an array of mods and extensions for applications), i could use it to block all youtube adds and basically turn youtube into youtube red.

You can basically mod everything, like install better sound drivers (viper4android as example) or maybe run a custom rom with a massive array of mods built in to give a great user experience. The sky is just barely the limit when it comes to these things.

Dont try anything, research your device. Locked bootloaders normally is a telltale sign that there is a easy path towards bricking your device.

well, the reason people jailbreak on iOS and root on android is because they experience a "lack of options".

if you dont have that lack of options (like i have with my moto G) rooting is most likely not worth the effort for you.

This is true. From what ive read the moto g line delivers a compelling stock(ish) android experience. Unlike my flex.

There are some non root players than have eqs (ie blackplayer). This is the ez route to avoiding the risks.

And i like the stock experience and hate everything less.they either copy apple or remove some of the best feature (like change wifi network form home screen)

i was amazed to find out the moto G doesnt even ship with a music player.

it's all up to the end user to decide.

meanwhile my dad's samsung: "son, why is everything on this installed twice?" "well, because you have the google version and the samsung version" "cant you uninstall them?" "no."

^some of these oems need to take a breather and stop pairing the same apps that cant be removed. I find it a good move not to have a build in music player, this way you can pick your poison.

its kind of a mix of good and bad.

you can decide what apps you want for what, its just also that you have to decide, which is confusing for "grandma"

True. I personally find it better to just pair it with googleplaymusic than some random player that you developed on a lunch money based budget. I mean it reminds me of the old gingerbread music players.

It's worth it for cyanogenmod. An improved version of android, that will be (often) at a newer version than stock firmware.
