my laptop experiment

Legolessed

so, as we all know laptops are expensive. This gave me the idea to start an experiment to see if i could get these laptops for cheaper. I picked 5 not super well known companies and decided to write to them. I cant figure something out though. Should i send them a letter or should i send them an email to contact them. One side of me thinks that the letter would be better as its more formal but the company might like the email because its instant. If you would like me to post updates saying how this experiment goes please let me know down in the comments.

You only ever hear about companies doing stuff when someone wrote and mailed a letter. I feel like you'd just end up in a spam folder if you send an email.

So you want to ask laptop companies really nicely for a discount?

You are going to waste your time.

The single biggest problem in communication is the illusion that it has taken place.

This would only work if you had a semi-well known review site/channel. Or if you would make an in depth look and actual experiment. You can't just ask them for a discount with the cover of calling it an 'experiment'. They will most probably just ignore it.

Second hand ThinkPad. Cheap, durable like tanks and usually has the hardware you need.

I'm doing this as an experiment

But it's usually a very small portion of the total cost of the laptop

This isn't going to work. The best you'll bet out of them from a letter is a lanyard or some stickers. At worst, no response at all... unless this letter also comes with an $800< check

Certainly not. That's just my oldest laptop. My oldest desktop is the TRS 80 which still function properly. Also not for sale :) I thought as this is a laptop thread, ... nevermind.
