The military seizing power when politics weren't to their liking was something that was commonplace in Turkey in the 60s-80s: Skynews

Doesn't surprise me, he was quite a jackass.

As bad as any coup might be, I can't but think how brutal Erdogan's Islamisation would be after a failed one, especially in the current situation of Turkey.

Coups don't "just happen", a small armed group cannot take control of a nation in a day. For a military coup to work someone needs to be in control of the nation's military and use it to seize and secure power.

I guess what they are doing right now is planned into the smallest detail. I'm pretty sure they have a plan on how to get power over the country.

In german TV they said that the small group doing the coup is disarming the police and the rest of the military. That done other countries would have to help out and if someone is going to help, it's gonna take at least a few days until the coup gets some resistance.

I was wondering if it's a good thing or a bad thing since the turkish policy is not what it should be like, considering they are trying to get into the EU...

Apparently the US Government said Turkish people should support the democratically elected government. If this is the case the Coup is definitely not on our (USA)side.

Imagine Australia after that...oh boy.

Hang on, why hasn't anyone made a post-nuclear war game in Australia yet? That would be a really terrifying experience. Imagine the spiders or God knows what a radioactive Australia might come up with.

You can tell by the US government encouraging people to support Erdogan, that he's the one losing right now.  Military got the weapons, the tactics, and the ability.  if they're being propped up by Russia or others, they're solid.  He's apparently fleeing to Qatar now, so, hopefully he has fun there.
