Hey guys. I know that mantle is a low level api that increases performance but how much more is expected.

  • Does mantle work with intel processors
  • Is it worth to upgrade to a gpu with mantle if you have a 780 (i know stupid question)
  • Will nvidia use it
  • I heard somewhere that directx 11.2 will be like mantle for nvidia have you heard this too

From what I gather, direct x and Mantle, are like 2 different "modes", and nvidea cards will be able to use direct x, and AMD will be able to use either.

NVIDIA is making a competitor to Mantle. It's called NVAPI. https://developer.nvidia.com/nvapi

Been around for years. Battlefield 3 has it implemented.

It has existed for over 2 years. "Making" doesn't seem appropriate imo.

why wasn't everyone making a big deal about this like they are not about mantle?  How come nobody brings this up when talking about mantle?

You are actually correct about that.

Because it's not the exact same. It's not an API like mantle. It's more of a engineering blueprint instead of a Ikea manual, if that makes sense. It's still using DirectX but now when using a Nvidia card it is giving greater details as to how to use resources on your Nvidia card. So while this is a nice boost for Nvidia users it won't reach what Mantle is doing since we are till bound by DirectX.

And it wasn't ever marketed, Nvidia seems to do this a lot. Release something that improves the quality and performance of there cards (such as frame rating hardware for SLI) not say anything, than when a competitor (namely AMD) does something they come out publicly saying they have a feature like this that helps with performance. It's a pretty good tactic, not confuse people with saying we have all these features but only come out with saying they have a fix for a problem that was seen. Looks good in peoples eyes, and allows you to be ahead.

If Nvidia came out years ago saying they had hardware to reduce frame rating when in SLI than you can be sure that AMD would be doing the same thing. They said nothing let people just continue on there day, forums say what they like better SLI/Xfire and than when this issue arises they have an imminent fix because they didn't have the problem in the first place. So now AMD is trying to get this hardware out and having to do software fixes in the mean time.

NvAPI is not Mantle. All it is, is a set of API codes for communicating with the GPU driver to get or set information about the GPU. Example:

-> Turn on V-Sync

-> Is V-Sync turn on?

-> Is SLI turned on? Which mode is is set to?

-> Overclock the core clock GPU to 5000 MHz, voltage to 80V, and mem clock to 30000 Mhz (basically, what MSI AfterBurner and EVGA Precision uses)

-> Control the light of the GeForce logo on the card if there is one.

-> Control the light of the SLI bridge on the card if there is one.

-> What GPU the system have?

-> Is it a laptop or a desktop?

-> What is the GPU core temperature?

-> What is the GPU usage?

That is all.

Mantle is a DirectX/OpenGL replacement.

@Godlygamer23, come on! it's explained on the very link you posted!
