Best 2016 Laptop ($2500)

Go to solution Solved by LordLeewee,

Dell XPS 15, smaller than your typical 15" laptop, pretty close to the 13" macbook air in size. mine has 1080p screen 512gb nvme m.2, 16gb ram, gtx 960m, and a 6700hq i7 at $1800

battery lasts forever if youre not using the dedicated gpu(12 hours), screen is great, trackpad is on par with macbook, and it weighs nothing for a 15"

I want an amazing laptop for under $2500, I am also OK with Apple. I actually prefer Apple sometimes. I also don't want anything bigger than 15 inches, or smaller than 13 inches. I'll be using this laptop for school, very light gaming, video editing, and web-surfing. I don't want something too bulky either. Any suggestions?

I liked the Razerblade a lot. Which would be a better buy, Dell XPS 15 9950, or the Razerblade. Both are about the same specs, but the Razer has a GTX 970M.

Literally none of these.

Dell 5510 is a business grade notebook with tons of additional capabilities that you'll pay for but not need, get the XPS 15

Macbook Pro 15 (about to be refreshed but this is an excellent choice so wait for the refresh)

Razer Blade 14 and Aorus 14 will overheat to all hell, be loud as hell, shitty battery life. Touching the underside of these laptops after extended gaming sessions or GPU accelerated video editing workloads will uncomfortably hot not to mention the fans are small and shitty and loud as hell. The thing thermal throttles, and while the materials are premium, quality control is substandard.

There's really two choices here at your budget and requirements

XPS15

- 15 inch screen in a 14inch form factor

- 4k or 1080p screen choice (1080p is great. I had one. ONLY reason why you would need a 4k screen is for professional photo or video work for that color accuracy and sRGB and NTFS coverage, ONLY reason. If you do get the 4k screen you'll have to deal with window scaling issues)

- Premium build

- 960m for your light gaming

- Doesn't overheat and sound like a jet engine

- 7-8 hours battery on the 1080p version, 5-6 hours on 4k version on a medium workload (work, excel, ppt, etc)

2016 Macbook Pro 15inch (just wait a month or two for the refresh)

- Premium Build

- God-Tier video editing because of Apple and Final Cut Pro optimization

- Assumed great battery as was the case with every Macbook ever

- Assumed will have the new Polaris 11 GPU for "light" gaming

There's more options if you want a beefier GPU, this is one of them

Clevo P640RE

- 14inch screen

- 970m

- Doesn't overheat or sound like a jet engine

- Built much better and while not aluminum, most Clevo rebrands will have good quality control

I know I said I don't mind 15 inch, but do you think the 13 inch Pro refresh will have a quad core i7? All current 13 inch Macs only have dual cores. I like the compact size of 13 inches.

Personally I highly doubt it. Apple's been putting dual-cores in the 13inch for a long time and I'll doubt that'll change.

^ these are various retailers that sell the P640RE with decent Bios and Software in US

Is slim, decent looking, has an SSD, 970m, doesn't overheat or throttle, fans arent unbearably loud. Is cheaper than the Razer Blade.

depends what youre doing, ive sat and used it on a 6 hour train journey doing work on word and a touch of photo editing with some videos in between, got to my destination with over 50% remaining. with brightness down and bluetooth and/or wifi off it can last a long time.

theres 2 different batteries in the 1080 model, a 56wh and an 84wh version i have the 84
