Vive gen. 2?

I want to get a vive, but feel that the tech is not ready yet. Will there be a vive V2, and if so, when will it be released? 

 

Should i buy a vive now,  or wait?

There are not even any rumours of a 2 as far as I know, so its impossible to comment


Could be a few years from now, they only just got this one out, and they need to sell lots of units before investing in new sets as well as for the software to mature

The tech is pretty good tbh, but you will have to wait a long time for it to be perfect and for new versions etc

Can't imagine a vive V2 will be released soon. Production just got finally up to speed and every early adopter that wants one, has one by now.

What they should do now is take feedback from the early adopters, do something useful with it, probably hype it up again and then release it.

 

If you can afford one now, and have a decent rig, i would get one now.

Depends on what you think the problematic limits are. Resolution might increase but the problem is more GPU performance than it is the ability to have such screens. 90 hz completely tricks the eyes and brain into believing its real I as a big FPS snob find it convincing. My issue is more the blurriness of the lenses and the sweet spot and that is very limited by lens technology today and its extremely limited as to what they can do there, its either heavy and distorting but not fresnel or they use fresnel lens and its lighter and potentially less blurry on the peripheral but with reflection issues. So I don't see that changing anytime soon.

 

So what are you expecting to change exactly? They are pretty limited by external factors already so I don't anticipate a V2 soon.

Im concerned about the resolution. Currently, no matter how powerful your pc is, the vive's resolution is fixed. I hope that the vive V2 will let people change the resolution so that if you have a low end GPU, you can still play VR. But if you have a Titan XXX (2018), you would be able to play at a resolution good enough to not see pixels. 

 

Also, a lighter HMD could be useful, 

Better touch controllers could be useful, 

More sensors and better lighthouses for head tracking? 

 

I just dont want an 800$ purchase to be outdated in a few years

That is why the rx480 launched, to cheapen the cost of vr, the resolution isn't going to change if anything it will increase.

How the Vive was made the next version will just be a new headset and you just drop it in and go. No new lighthouses and so on. I had one and it was insane. The most simple things like looking at a wall are fun. I found this fishing game and thought I might try it. 8 hours later my mother yelled at me for being loud because it was like 5 in the morning. The reason I say had is because my CPU had problems with USB 3.0 like ZEN is currently having and they caused lots of noise on the USB so the tracking didn't work some occasionally. I wasn't going to spend $800 on a thing that doesn't work so I returned it. Only cons are cable and and the res if you have bad eyes. It is not bad when in a game but reading text far away is hard. All in all, I would buy it again if my PC worked with it. I just watched youtube and browsed the web sitting down and it was perfect.
