GTX 1070 or....

Mekel

If it's any card it will be the 1070 Xtreme. The 1070 is on some pretty early drivers vs the mature 980ti drivers. If you'd pay attention to drivers.

in fact, most people who know that kind of stuff seem to say that Pascal is just a ''shrunken'' maxwell architecture and that the driver optimisation should affect/benefit both pretty much the same way...so in a way pascal drivers should be considered to be quite mature already...and maxwell cards should not suffer from the kepler syndrom this time around.

2. Most games I play are Arma 3, KF2, Fallout 4, PlanetSide 2, and some others.

awwwhhh man...you don't need that much GPU horsepower to drive a 1080p monitor in those games...most of these games are CPU bound anyways...lol...in fact all these games you mentionned there are very CPU heavy and will not greatly benefit from a super high-end graphics solution...i think you should wait for the GTX 1060 or something...unless money is not a problem and you want to future-proof yourself for a very long time...or maybe you plan to up your game one notch and get to 1440p or 4K gaming in the near future or something...all i'm saying is that such a powerful graphics card is not needed for those games at that resolution.

I don't know what to choose so I came to the forums for your guys opinion on the situation. I don't whether to choose from buying a gtx 1070 which I just have enough money to spend or should I wait and buy a couple of Steam games since it is the Steam summer sale but then I wouldn't have any enough money for the 1070. My current gpu is the gtx 770, let know what you guys think of what I should do? Thanks. :)

What monitor do you game on?

As a follow-up, what games do you mostly play/want to play?

If you have the money, the 1070 is a great card. It would be much more to your benefit to get a new card and get games for it later. The steam sale is honestly garbage and a waste of money now anyways. No flash sales = no good deals.

And you wouldn't have to buy a new power supply.

1070 all the way, for your current gpu that would be a major upgrade...

I would go buying some cheap games and then just get the 1070 later since the GTX 770 can still handle most games on high settings but you will have to wait a couple months for another steam sale if you buy the GTX 1070....note get only good deals

There's a 980 Ti going for $399.99 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814500382 if you wanna save some bucks. But I'd much rather get this: 980 Ti Classified http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814487229

The 1070 can actually just beat out the 980 and 980ti and is on par with alot of its performance... So unless the 980ti is (EDIT: Significantly) cheaper the 1070 would be the way to go.

The performance difference is not as big as some people make it out to be.

Yes, but its also running with all the new hardware, lower TDP and a few other things... By all means if the 980ti is $100+ cheaper then go for it, but the 1070 wins in basically everything.

i run my 980ti at around 1450mhz and in benchmarks  and games it's about as fast as a 1900mhz GTX 1070 which is what most of these chips seem to be able to get.

you get better features and an extra 2GB of video memory with the 1070 though...if you do VR or plan to do VR in the future the 1070 IMHO is worth an extra 100$ for similar models...but if you don't...and don't plan to...then it's worth an extra 50$...if it's anything more than that i would say f*ck it get the 980ti.

Those 980 Ti's I've linked are all cheaper than the 1070. There's nothing that the 980 Ti loses out in.

OP's power supply would work perfectly with a 1070.

It's more or less about how much can I save without upgrading anything else. (Assuming his PSU is only like a 450W or something)

power consumption and heat output...if that is a concern then the 1070 is noticeably better in that arena...other than that though i agree.

...and VR.

There is no need to worry about the PSU. The GTX 770/680 has very similar power requirement and heat output. If OP can power a 770, then OP can power a 980 Ti.

hell nahh bro...not even close...i used to run GTX 780 in there (the big kepler chip...not even that GK104 chip in the 770) and the 980ti output A LOT more heat...it's very noticeable...the entire case get hot now and there is heat coming off the top where it was running decently cool before...and the cooling solution on the strix card that i have is nearly twice as big and heavy and yet the 980ti run a lot hotter than the 780 used to run...the 770 has NOWHERE near the power consumption of a 980ti i tell you that...100% sure...even the 780 was a lot cooler.

Im interested to see @Mekel Opinion on this matter... Older 980ti with less pref ect but cheaper vs newer 1070 with higher pref more vram ect ect...

it's really not that much i tell you that...many reviewers who tested the cards at overclocked settings (which is what you should do IMHO...that's the only way to see what those chips are really capable off) they all concluded that performance wise it's pretty much the same...and i agree with that since my own testing when i compare to unigine and firestrike and some gaming benchmarking runs i did just for the lolz to compare all show me that my card in it's overclocked configuration is as fast as an overclocked GTX 1070...so a good one.

Yea. Go find another 1070 that'll go above 2.1Ghz on air. Gaming X is already clocked at 2.1Ghz. If you'd read the article.

AMD though...they have cards that could compare in terms of heat and power consumption to the big maxwell chip...the R9 390X for example...this is a card that has similar power and thermal numbers to the 980ti/titanX

Those cards will all pull 250W from the wall out of the box easily...and will climb to 300W with some tweaking in afterburner...just like the 980ti
