Gaming CPU Needed

Ok, so I've had Intel CPU's my whole life, and the only problem I have with them, is the price per cores. If i want a decent high core count processor from Intel, its like 400$ for just the CPU with the newer architectures. But over on Team Reds side, I see this FX-9590 with 8 cores clocked at 4.7 ghz out of the box! Like wtf! and wait for it, 260$. I could afford that like, right now, so why shouldn't I get it? I understand that having an Intel desktop atm will cause a few wrinkles in the installation, but what reason do I have to not order one right now to replace my i5-3330. Im looking to do some mid to high gaming, recording streaming and editing, someone enlighten me please.

Cores aren't everything. IPC differences have a large impact on performance.

Consider that the FX series is several years old at this point, based on an outdated architecture.

well amd's current cpus have very weak single core performance even that one, imo you should wait for amd zen to come out first and see how it performs

1) cores and frequency =/= performance

2) the 9590 is a stupid CPU that should have never existed

3) you cannot use AMD CPUs in an intel motherboard, you would need to buy a new motherboard

the 9590 consumes a lot of power, and is an old architecture at that. unless you're doing some really intensive stuff that can take advantage of all that sweet power, stay with intel. at least until Zen releases

Ok. With AMD's line of CPU the state amount of cores is actually the number of threads-in fact their current CPU don't even have cores but modules (due to the CMT architecture-its like calling a 4790K an 8 core CPU). Now at 5.3-5.4GHz an FX 9590 isn't that much better than an i5 4440 in games-and the i5 4440 consumes well under half the power and isn't 4-5 years old. The main things anyone looking to get an FX 83** to 5GHz/an FX 9590 is the cost of the mother board, cooling, and in some cases even the power supply. As it stands, replace your i5 3330 with an Ivybridge i7 and at stock it will be close to the FX 9590 while requiring no new motherboard and performing better than the FX 9590.

Hasn't this whole thing been put to be as of like 3 years ago? 9590 is just a terrible cpu for what you get. If you want 8 cores you either pay crazy amounts of money from intel or get an 8320 from amd with a good mobo and cooler. 8320 actually has some really great value but if the goal is gaming then go intel. If it's rendering/gaming the 8320 is compelling at it's price.

then buy a Z170-a from asus and a 6600k or 6700k

MUCH better choices than a 9590

Well for starters you won't be overclocking an FX 9590 past its stock speed as they can be actually unstable out of the factory-and FX 9590 should never be considered

No....its actually not....not when you look at the cost of one of the few motherboards that can safely run an FX 9590, the cost of the cooler, and the cost of the new PSU since your machine is obviously a Dell pre-built.

See the problem is, for the last 4 years, ive been content with my computer, but now it is stating to fall behind in performance. I want to ramp things up a bit, but there are far too many options. Im looking at about 400$, to order an upgrade, maybe even tonight

no

1) the i5 is about the same price or cheaper as the 9590, the i7 is $100 more

2) either way you would need to replace your motherboard, and a motherboard that supports the 9590 is about as expensive as the Z170-a

3) you would need to buy a new PSU for the 9590 because it uses 3x more power than an intel CPU

4) you would need to spend another $100+ on an extreme cooler for the 9590

5) there is a quote button for a reason

please use it

Sorry, new to the whole forum thing as well. Didnt know quoting was helpful. What if i go with a 5th gen Intel CPU, rather than the brand new skylake. I understand the costs of upgrading motherboards and everything, and i have a 520w psu, just fyi. Ive slowly been upgrading, with the forsight of changing cpus. Also, something not many people could explain to me. One of my other ideas was the e3-1231v3. 370$, 8 threads, 4 cores. Bad idea?

$370 is as expensive as a new i7...

the reason a lot of people get the 1231v3 is because you can find it for $250 or less

but yeah if you get a Z97 motherboard and i7 4790k from craigslist it will be way cheaper than buying skylake new

and almost the same performance

CPUs do not have "issues of previous use"

as long as it works when you buy it then it will work perfectly fine for another decade

thats why you ask people to show you it works before you buy

and yeah I would recommend buying a motherboard new

This you can't overclock but will serve you well and still outperform the FX-9590 across the board while consuming less than half the energy and come on a much more modern platform, you can used the included CPU cooler it's fine for this CPU:

Obviously no overclocking on 1231 duh. cant overclock Xeon as far as im aware. How reliable is "SuperBiiz" in terms of delivers and such. Have you ordered from them before? Last graphics card i ordered showed up cracked and bent, so im skeptical

If your really wanting to save some money and want an 8 core then go with a 8300 or 8320 with a Asrock 990FX board and over clock thew 9590 is a horrible deal and all it is, is an overclocked 8350 also consider the 6XXX series as well. You'll save $100+ going with the 8XXX or 6XXX series im happy with my AMD machine but i am currently building intel system as well to compare performance with the same price range. But i will agree with the above, wait for zen later this year or next year.
