So I've been overclocking my Gigabyte G1 970........

 

when i play the division i get a stable overclock of 

+10mv

+75mhz CC

+200mhz MC.

i use MSI afterburner to get this.  

 

if i go to 

+50mv

+125mhz CC

+400mhz MC

 

i play the division and i seem to get a display driver crash.............. why cant i hold that stability despite the Voltage increase? could i get different stability going with say EVGA Precision?  if anybody could provide a link to EVGA precision that would be great as the version i downloaded was only for the new 1000 series.

 

anybody able to give me their results?

P.S. could it be i just got a Dud card for Ocing?

i never got a good chip in my life. GTX 760 would not oc at all GTX 980 1400mhz with max voltage any higher it would crash

Try maxing out the voltage when trying overclocks to give you your best chance, the Nvidia voltage limit doesn't let it get to anywhere in a realm of danger, but it also could be the luck of the draw. I've seen some easily do +150Mhz on the core and +500Mhz on the Mem but it's never a guarantee.

So if you get +100Mhz, you're at 1454, which isnt terrible.  But don't give up yet.  What temps are you getting?  Also, you should reset your memory to factory, bump the voltage, and then bump the core clock 10mhz at a time over 75 until you find the stable gpu clock.  Then do the same with the memory. Don't change both at once because then you don't know what caused the instability.

so its perfectly safe to go all the way to +70mv? i thought that would kill the card?

Well it does increase temps with more voltage but with Nvidia's built in physical limit on the board it really doesn't let you push it to a dangerous level or even change voltage that much when you set it to a certain level, at times it doesn't increase your set amount. Just keep an eye on temps to make sure they aren't getting overly hot during overclocking.

Leave your RAM at stock for now. Don't mess with it until you've found your max stable clock on the core. Otherwise, you get those crashes and begin to wonder "hm, what's the cause of the instability..."
