What the hell is this? YOU ACTUALLY READ THE STICKY?

Revolutionary indeed, it's almost like it was put there for this purpose.

The RAM is a bit overpriced, 8350 would do better with CAD/Video work while performing the same if not better than the i5 on gaming, choice is up to you if you want to switch platforms or not. If you must buy now, I would strongly implore you to buy a 7970 instead since they're selling for stupidly cheap. If you can wait, put it off until mid October after R9 series release and come back to the forums to decide on a card.

Corsair ram overpriced, nothing new, your choice. Cooler is fine. Go with a barracuda, if not at least get a 7200 WD drive. Assuming that case is mATX, you're good on that. If you don't need SLI/CFX that PSU is fine as well.

@CoolBeans has a good build there, only thing I would consider changing is that H100i to either a Kraken x60 or NDH14 and working in 16gb kit if you can. Case is also arbitrary, just make sure your chosen cooler fits.

the two opinions mentioned are you best bet. I stand by both of their position on the hardware.

Pretty good I hope to see a build log. I still have to suggest you get the 7970 over the 770. Also get a Seagate Barracuda instead of a WD Green.

Thanks, I'm not completely decided on the GPU yet, I guess I'm waiting to see the prices on AMD's new series of cards.

Message received, don't get WD Green.

The monitors have lasted me this long, a bit longer wont hurt, also 16:10's are expensive :P. I'd rather keep it small stay mATX, I'm only going to have a GPU so I don't need the extra PCIe slots that ATX offers. I had considered the AMD route but they don't seem to have the same level of quality mATX boards available. I'm definitely going to change the RAM out now though, initially it was a cosmetic thing but now I seen how pointless it is.

No no it's not like that, I swear!  I was about to post then I though 'there's probably a sticky I have to read..'

The WD green is not a good drive, try upgrading to the blue version at least if you can't afford WD black.

Message received, don't get WD Green & get 7970/wait for R9 series.

I liked your initial build. Having had an AMD in my last build and Intel in my current, I prefer intel. I also prefer NVIDIA for gpu, i can see going with the 7970 because of price. But if I were you I'd definetly save up for a new monitor, nothing less than 24inches and 1080p is my standard. With that kinda beast rig, why limit yourself to a small monitor and not get the most full experience possible.

My System:

CPU: i7 4790k @ stock GPU: EVGA GTX 780 FTW MB: ASUS Z97-PRO (Wi-Fi ac) RAM: CORSAIR Dominator 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR3 2133 CPU Cooler: Corsair H100i SSD: 2 256 GB Samsung 840 Pros in RAID-0 HDD: Western Digital 500 GB Black, Seagate Barracuda 3TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache PSU: Cooler Master V850 80 Plus Gold Case: Fractal Define R4

Crossfire ready. Replace stock h100i and case stock fans with sickleflows. 2 for h100i on top. Front 2 intake and rear 1 exhaust.
