980ti vs AMD 490

So with the new slew of graphics cards I've decided its time for an upgrade from by 7950 3GB to something a hair more powerful. The real question for me is to grab a 980Ti for ~£400 or do I wait for the new AMD cards priced at around the same price point. I do all of my gaming at 1080p on a single monitor although I do use two monitors for work. So really I asking for speculations of performance if anyone has more of an idea about it than I do.  Thanks in advance

AMDs presentation emphasised the $100-$300 price range a lot. Because of that I would expect the RX 490 to cost $300, which may end up around £300. It should perform about as good as the 980 Ti and be much more power efficient. Even if it turns out to be absolute shit you should be finding 980 Ti's for around £300 used with availability of the 400 and the 1000 series of cards.

Oh definitely, I'm just looking for a bit of future proofing, I don't plan of upgrading for at least the next 4-5 years.

For the sake of future proofing, the 480 can be crossfired nicely where supported. With Dx12 if it works right, this could prove to be an excellent match. Pick up 1 now, and 1 later when prices drop when you need to advance further. But, I understand a lot of folks are leery of Cross fire / SLI

If you have a budget of 400£, go for the gtx 1070 instead of the 980ti. The 480 should be about the same performance as the 1070

AMD's Vega is supposed to be at the end of the year. So you have some waiting to do!

If you're using a 1080p monitor then the RX 480 is a much better choice for you. I'd hold out for the MSI lighting with 8g of VRAM, looks to be a beast.
