Are cheap fans good enough

So obviously I want my parts to last. Most people seem to focus so much on how many fans you need, but never do they mention how much you should be spending on your fans. So with that said, are more expensive fans mainly for lower noise or do they actually give noticeably better airflow?

Both cheap and expensive fans can be either quiet, or move a lot of air.  The trick to an expensive one is it will do both at once, and look good during ;)

Cheap fans have more resistance so they wear out faster. Your PC will probably be long gone before they die but they don't have as nice of bearings and what not. They also might be louder. But a fan is a fan they move air

I bought 4 yate loon fans for about 30 USD and I have been happy with them, that did include cable sleeving on each one they were about 7 USD per fan all in all, 4 without sleeving.

noctuas do both. But dont come here claiming they look good in their womit/poop color.

 

more expensive fans also, most of the time, has much higher static pressure.

Seams like a great deal! Right now I have 3 120's but i have no clue what they are and whether or not they give a decent amount of airflow. I may just drop 15 bucks for this set.

Bought cheap Enermax 80mm fan back in 2009, I remember them being less than $5 CAD each, they are still working and still silent (silent for a $5 CAD fan!).

The short answer is: No. The long answer is: Yes.

 

Premium fans are premium fans because they provide features that regular fans might not. In this instance, I use the term, "Premium" very loosely as a means of describing every fan that isn't a base model fan. What a premium fan will provide can vary from LED lighting, to CFM rating, bearing type, life-time, dB rating, ect. 

 

So is a fan inherently better because it's a premium fan? Well, not always.

 

Whether a premium fan is good for you or not depends on what you need from your fans. Sure, base model fans will get the job done, but if you need a bit more power in a smaller package, then a premium fan may become a viable option for you. Specially designed fans that make use of higher grade materials can be designed to produce a CFM rating or a static pressure rating (WG) greater than that of cheaper base model fans. The applications of a small powerhouse fan like this can make more compact builds possible, or lower temperatures in air-cooled environments.

 

So, ultimately it depends on what you're going to use it for. I wouldn't personally use say a $1 fan off of Ebay on anything I cared about, because the reliability of that product becomes a concern. If it were say a $5 Antec or Rosewill however, that would be perfectly fine.

Older good fans are pretty solid, Air Penatrators come to mind, only 3 pin, but pretty quiet, great airflow and pressure.
