Tbh I would say that the i7 would actually bottle neck the card or they would evenly run as an i7 860 is a very old processor and is no where near as fast as newer chips.

Here are some benchmarks. (Always take them with a grain of salt):

i7 860 vs i5 4690: http://cpuboss.com/cpus/Intel-Core-i7-860-vs-Intel-Core-i5-4690

i7 860 vs i7 4790: http://cpuboss.com/cpus/Intel-Core-i7-860-vs-Intel-Core-i7-4790

Those aren't benchmarks - those are CPUBoss. Avoid that site. Really, it's terrible.

the i7 860 is about 50% slower than the i7 4790

With the new gpus releasing i wanted to grab a newer card since ive been running two GTS 450's for the last 5 years. I plan on doing a complete overhaul in due time but for now I just want a quick upgrade. I have an Intel I7 860 quad core cpu running at 3.6 Ghz and Crucial Ballistix Sport 16 GB DDR3 Ram at 1600 mhz cas 9, would this cause any major bottlenecks to my system or would it run decently?

No if you scroll down the page there is actually a benchmark section. I usually try to avoid CPU Boss but I don't know too many other CPU benchmark sites :/
