I just have to say that I'm so freakin excited about their new "zen" architecture if its as good as they say it is its gonna be amazing as well as their new rx 380??! That thing looks beast mode too and if it could utilize the new ddr4 standard that's on the horizon because in apus ram speed actually does make a difference but how much better will their laptop offerings be compared to Intel/nvidias?

Haha yea idk my brand new laptop just died on me so I'm thinking bout getting a refund and just waiting till laptops have the new zen apus if that in fact will happen Im a student and it would be nice having my own but that's kool I could wait a few months I just don't wanna by an i7 today and come to find out that in a couple months people want the newer processor cause the generation zen+ won't be as big of a leap like 10 to 15 percent whereas bulldozer to zen is crazy like 40 percent better IPC being a computer science student this makes me really hard haha ;)

Always wait for benchmarks. Zen could be great (and i hope it is),  but there is the possibility of of it being underwhelming.  Before bulldozer came out,  there were rumors of it being "AMD's comeback"  and it turned out to be barely competitive at launch.

Idk these numbers look pretty solid but yes 3rd party benchmarks are always needed

that's not Zen, by the way.

I have a Fury Nitro and an FX 8320E. Screw my life?

It says "at computex today" the article was written 4 days ago

Those chips are based off of the 'Bristol Ridge' CPU architecture.

AMD mentioned it back in their presentation from 2015.

Let me dig up the stream...and the official presentation slides from back then...

EDIT:

Wait!

7-th generation APU's are supposed to launch in 2016, as well as 'Zen.'

They will be using socket AM4 on the desktop, and FP4 on laptops.

PDF dated 05/06/15 -- "AMD 2015 FAD - AMD Computing and Graphics Segment Overview"

Just so we are clear, they are NOT 'Zen' APUs.

They are 'Bristol Ridge.'

Don't thank them before you see what they're giving you. We can hope and they can promise, but we haven't seen anything substantial yet.

Also, I'm not sure what's so "new" about DDR4... It's what, like, two years old now?

"Do as I say, not as I do."

-Because you actually care if it makes sense.

and it was. For servers.

However being damn good at IO workloads and server workloads whilst being relatively power efficient for the time, is great. It doesnt mean that the same system will do fine in desktop enviroments which rely much more on single threaded workloads. Almost no IO work and poor multi threaded scaling with the existing DX and OpenGL iterations.

So someone, somewhere in AMD did a dumb. And it haunted them for years.
