Hey guys so all my componentstuff have finally arrived except for the graphics card. My question is, for the test boot before I put the components into the case is it okay to run the skylarks processor without a cpu cooler for a few seconds? As I have the Dark rock 3 it would be a bitch if the processor was faulty! Thanks for the replies!

its so unlikely that you would get a faulty CPU, you should test it wit the cooler installed, since you can  still return the faulty CPU even if you have used it with a cooler since yuo could risk damaging it further

And you are sure your Skylake CPU does not come with a CPU cooler? Because I believe only the K series CPU's from Skylake don't have a cooler.

It could die with heat. Its not worth the risk. A cooler takes about 2 mins to put on,unless it's the Intel stock cooler and you have never put one on before as I found out.....half an hour it took me. But anyway you can return it if it is ,phew, broken. Plus if it dose work then you are one step closer. If its all brand new then its unlikely to go wrong. If it was used I would be a bit more cautious. The only time I have seen a new component go wrong is down to human error on my part. If you have had it less then 24-48 hours most shops have a change mind policy so you can pretend you have changed your mind.

Have you tried turning it off and on again?

When I assembled my current rig I inadvertently entangled the FDD connector to the CPU cooler fan. You'll be fine, but in the BIOS you'll notice that the CPU temps will rise quickly (roughly 1 °C every second). If you don't keep the system on for more than 20 seconds you'll be fine.

It is the 6700K :3 I'll run it with the cooler and if it works I can just put everything into the case!
