Is there a way to transfer os to ssd?

CruxYo

Right now I have a hard drive but I see so many ssds on sale. Is there a way to transfer the os and some programs to the ssd? I don't want to start with a new install.

You can use a program like Macrium Reflect to transfer over the OS.

Although starting fresh is more recommended.

Old junk files that are to be written over can still exist and may be transferred potentially hurting performance.

If your HDD runs on IDE but the new SSD is configured using AHCI copying the OS over it might not even boot.

There's probably other reasons but I can't think of them right now.

I have a lot of things I don't want to delete. I also upgraded a while back and I don't feel like starting fresh.

I use minitool partition manager it has a migrate os to ssd wizard, and it's free. https://www.partitionwizard.com/free-partition-manager.html

I am a paid professional, but only when I am at work...and getting paid.

Of course you can. If the SSD you buy is large enough, you can clone the entire HDD to SSD. If the SSD is smaller than HDD, try transfer OS only to SSD, and make HDD as the secondary storage device. I used AOMEI Partition Assistant Standard did that once and worked. Be sure to change boot settings after migration. It is free for Windows 7 and Windows 10. No adware.

Cheers.
