Hi guys,

I've done a wall mounted cpu(htpc)  from some old parts i had left and i would like to add it a passive cooling gpu and/or a really silent gpu,

The current spec of the system is:

CPU : Intel E8400

CPU Cooling: Artic Alpine 11 Pro rev 2.0

GPU: 9400GT 1Gb (a really loud GPU)

Ram: 2x4Gb ram ddr3

I had a 9400GT and i placed a cheap aftermarket zalman cooler on it, make a BIG difference and make it a lot quieter.

Being an old card your best option is to get a cheap aftermarket gpu cooler and hope you can mount it to it, ghetto work might be required.

I had this one: http://www.amazon.com/Zalman-VF700-Cu-Copper-Ultra-Quiet-Cooler/dp/B00079AGU8

If they haven't changed the mounting system it should be an easy fit and keep the card cool and quiet.

If you want my attention, quote meh! D: or just stick an @samcool55 in your post :3

Passive coolers are generally very large. How much clearance do you have? Also even if you locate one I don't think it would be compatible with a 9400GT. You might have to come up with a custom solution. Jerry-rig a CPU cooler to it. I've seen it done with amazing results (your mileage may vary).

i have plenty of room since it's a wall mounted cpu. and i dont mind changing the gpu since the 9400GT is kinda old

If you decide to buy a new card you can find a low end graphics card for cheap and just adjust the fan speed in software to make it quiet.

I would go with what you know is good. If a GTX730 will run what you want to play then go with that.

if you really have a lot of space and like some modding:

otherwise get an Accelero S3 (make sure you get the new version with the backside cooler) and something like a GTX960 or a GTX950 if you don't like temperature spikes over 80°C.

Mineral oil and 40 kg aluminium heat sinks are a perfect combination: 73 cores and a Titan X, Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Oil

wow that builds sounds insane, but i find a gtx 950 over the top for this build in particular.
