If I'm not mistaken, Intel has come out with a 22 core server CPU, and they have an 8 core monster with a 10 core rumored to come out... So why  does AMD's ad say this...

Probably cause they aren't considering Intel's Xeon as desktop sizes. Xeons are for Servers, and I don't think they have a desktop one out larger than 8 Cores.

They're talking about consumer desktop products, among which 8 cores is the most available. And they're technically right about the FX processors running higher clocks than the Intel 8-core (5960X).

They're saying the highest clock + most cores which if you think about it, without overclocking, AMD is the only chip with an 8 Physical Core chip at 4.0 GHz or higher. Xeons have more cores but they also have significantly lower clock speed from it. Also remember AMD is advertising to the consumer desktop market not the enthusiast/server grade market like Intel is with their extreme editions and Xeon chips.

Core i7s are still consumer products, even if they're for enthusiast consumers. Doesn't really matter here though, the claim of most cores + highest clocks on FX chips is still true (albeit misleading).

I wouldn't really consider 9370 and 9590 to be enthusiast grade. They're both cheaper than an i5 4690k and 6600k. AMD doesn't really have an enthusiast grade chip yet. Can you even buy Opteron chips? I thought you had to like special order those bitches already soldered to a board and crap.  But I'm pretty sure everyone know Opteron is server anyway.

6950X seems to be priced around 1700 EUR (Greece)

6800k around 450 EUR (Greece aswell)

Do you have any real world test or benchmarks on how well an Opteron performs against say it's Xeon counterpart? I actually like AMD chips despite everyone elses opinions and might consider an Opteron instead of a Xeon for a personal server I plan on building.

I'm definitely buying a 6800k on release day. I've been planning that system out for months. It's going to be a 6800k with SLI 1080, 64GB of RAM and 4TB of SSD storage. It's way overkill but it's the system I really want.

It's an Intel hexacore with 12 threads, OFC it's overkill. But the 6950X is overkill's overkill <_<
